Ever Have The Whole Plane To Yourself?

Mon Sep 29, 2003 2:00 pm

Well, I had the whole C cabin to myself once.

It was a Crossair Bac 146. My partner and I were flying FCO-ZRH. We were the only ones in the C cabin, and there were perhaps 4 or 5 rows of C. Y was full.

Shortly before 9/11 I flew XJ (NW AIRLINK) from MSP-HIB-LYU. There were 15 people going to HIB, and everybody got off there. The flight between Hibbing and Ely was all mine. Pretty cool.

i was flying on Trans States Jetstream 31 from LAX-PSP. my mom, sister, and myself were the ONLY ones on the flight. I think the plane can hold 20ish (i think, sorry if i'm wrong). I don't particularly like flying on prop jets...but really don't like it if its just me and the pilots.

I was on DL 1633 SLC-GEG on a 737-300 and there were 4 people on the plane and 3 flight attendants. Nice to have a whole section but that flight is now gone to skywest  Sad

I've been one of five pax on an MD-80. The F/A upgraded everyone to F.

I was once the only passenger on a SIA 747-400.

This was during some flight crew training.

I've had the whole cabin to myself serveral times...but never on a scheduled flight....only during a test flight after a maintenance check or a ferry flight...I guess thats one of the perks of being a mechanic, the only problem is there is no FA to get you coffee.....you have to get up and make it yourself...

I once boarded a TG A333 and out of the 46 Business Class seats, me and my dad were the only occupants. The lead steward was like "take any seat you one, this whole cabin is yours!" LOL  Laugh out loud but after take off i noticed one of the cabin crew (higher seniority) siting in the first row reading newspaper  Big grin

This was during the SARS period where everyone was afraid of flying. Even Economy was less than half full. The flight was from BKK-PEN. That aircraft actually originated from CAN (Guangzhou) then after transit in BKK flew us to PEN. The lady at Royal Orchid told us that.

I once heard that a few years ago a BA 747 from JFK - LHR only had one (1) pax onboard!!! Not sure if it that was myth or truth? The story goes that BA though the flight would be cx and all the pax's were transferred to other flights except this one passenger. Turns out they fixed the airplane and just took the one World Travler passenger and cargo, needless to say they upgraded him to FIRST! Anyone else hear this story?

AV8,
True story. However, the airplane was delayed a multitude of hours, and needed to be ferried back to London empty or not.

My brother and I were the only two in FC once on a DL L-1011 from MAN - ATL, (when DL had 3-classes internationaly). Probably why DL went to 2-classes!

Pretty close...

February 1990....SFO-SMF on UA, a 727. We had arrived from HNL on the red eye, and had to get this flight to SMF, and then up to PDX. My parents and sister and I were in first, and there was 3-4 in the first few rows of coach. Few people for a really short flight.

Around January 1, 1999, I was one of only 8 passengers on board a night flight from IAD-DEN on a UA DC-10. It was my last DC-10 flight, probably forever. It was a beautiful night, and the moon's reflection glittered on the wing of the DC-10. We decended into the clouds for descent into Denver, and the runway only became visible VERY close to touchdown because it was POURING snow. We sat on the taxiway for a bit while snow gathered on the wings. Pretty neat last DC-10 flight.

Doing an out and back non-rev with a friend in Sep. 01 after 9/11. We flew ORD-PVD on a UAL 727-200 in F, then on the return leg the c.s. guy upgraded the entire plane to F and alls that was left in coach was me, my friend and 1 unlucky passenger who missed F by one seat. Very cool, sat in the back row and talked with the f/as the whole flight. 3 people in the coach section of a 722. like having your own private tri-motor.

I forgot one time I was flying lnk-msp on the first day of spring break it was just me and a pinnacle maintance guy (the 6am flight was delayed because the overnight aircraft had to o2 canister) let me tell you it was nice to have the plane to myself but there was a hoard of mad college students on the other side of the gate once I got off. Guess they didn't really want to be in lincoln!

I've also flown as the only pax (captain, co-pilot, no flight attendants) on a Delta 767-400 ferry flight ATL-MCO. Was quite fun!

Two days after 9/11 I was returning with QF to Brisbane from Auckland in first - I was the only one. Hardly anyone else on board and the 744 took off like a rocket....

It was ATL-BCN on Aug 1st 1995, on a L1011 of Delta, every passenger had one 5-seat row for sleeping. We were maybe 30 pax in an L11...

Happy turbulences!!!

Only three weeks ago on sector DXB - JNB, the early morning flight in a EK 777-200, I was the only one in F for the whole of the eight hour flight down south.

In fact I have often been the only person in F class on various flights/airlines around the world. Too many to even mention here.

In 1991, I and my wife flew HPN-PHL-CVG. The HPN-PHL was on a prop plane that seats about 20, I don't remember which one, and we were the only two passengers.

I once flew KUL-BKK in 1985 with British Airways and only 38 passengers boarded the L1011 Tristar at KUL - its origin. The flight however filled up at BKK.

Then in 1991, on the eve of the Gulf War I deadline - I was again amongst only a handful of passengers on a BA flight out of KUL via BKK for LHR. The entire flight this time only had a few passengers on it - I was 1 of 3 passengers on the upper deck for this 747 flight.

Flew NRT-DTW on an NWA 744, had the entire Upperdeck to myself. 2 FA's to one PAX, needless the say the service was supurb. There was one other WBC passenger on the lower deck and about 20 in Y. Very unusual as this is NW's Flagship USA-Asia route.
