Widebody Portable Strairs, Cool!

Mon Sep 29, 2003 2:18 pm

I've had to use portable stairs on many flights in LHR. All were BA B747's due to the lack available gates on Termainl 4. It was quite a walk down from there but I loved it. It gave you a great appreciation for the shere size of the majestic B747! I also got use the portable stairs off a BA L-1011 in GLA, fantastic, we even used the forward Right hand door which they never seem to do in the US. Does anywhere else use the right doors? Seems as though it's usual to only use the forward most LEFT doors?

Usually, the cargo loaders are working on the right hand side, so one wouldn't use that door.

I used the airstairs when I returned from Japan in 1999. It was on an AA777 NRT-SJC. Those 777 engines are a sight to see up close. What sucked was having to use SJC's then "Customs Shack" to go through customs. What a welcome to the US! Makes us look like some 3rd world country.
