Mon Sep 29, 2003 4:38 pm

Has China Airlines started service to KUL as reported by www.justplanes.com and will there be any new ones flying to KUL?

I believe China Airlines is flying 737-800's to KUL, according to their website!

China Airlines (CI) have had flights to KUL for a very long time. On the other hand, Air China (CA) recently inaugurated 3 weekly B767 services to Kuala Lumpur.

I flew from Hong Kong to/from KUL on China Airlines back in 2001 on their A300-600 and 737-800.

Like what Odie said, China Airlines has been flying to KUL for a long time. They used to operate both 767-209s and A300s to KUL back in the 80s.

Airbus_A340 : I flew that exact same route back in 1987 on a 767. I flew to TPE via HKG to catch the 747SP to LAX. If I recall the HGK-TPE segment was only 30 mins long and the aircraft was packed to the brim.

CA I presume relates to Air China...

On the subject of China Airlines - I once flew with them on a 707 from HKG-KUL in 1979 and survived to tell the tale  Nuts

Will there be any new ones flying to KUL?

Philipphine Airlines is expected to resume its services to KUL in October 2003. Asiana is a very good prospective airline. ANA and MAS are currently in initial code-share talks (maybe that will give MAS more weekly slots into NRT). And god knows what happened to the Alitalia, Qantas/Australian rumors.

Also, I think China Eastern is suspending its Kunming-Kuala Lumpur flights soon. Hopefully, they will replace those flights with Shanghai-Kuala Lumpur flights.

Triple Seven - it may have been on fire - I wouldn't be able to tell the difference...  Nuts

I do remember landing at Subang in virtual darkness after a delay at HKG as almost every flicker of light was switched off prior to landing except for that really COOL light panel on most 707s - above the windows with the tiny holes to mimic stars.

Sad to hear that MU going to pull KMG-KUL.

But as expected, their charter flights into PEN has been successful pre-SARS and they actually did a scheduled flight once but then SARS hit and they stopped.

Now they resumed KMG-PEN vv once a week on Sundays using B737-300s. It is in fact a China Yunnan service.

Would be great to see PR back in KUL...

OdiE, where did you hear abt NH? That'd be great! They were supposed to resume KUL after suspension via KUL in Apr 02 but obviously they didn't. Currently to fly ANA to N. America on their fares quoted by ANA KL you will be on SQ to SIN then catch the NH flight to NRT then onwards.

AL: It's in MH's annnual release (NH). NH did resumed its services into KUL for a short period of time but pulled out again.

MU's services into KUL is still uncertain at the moment. MU is not showing any flights between KMG and KUL (which is operated by China Yunnan). CZ is pulling out from PVG-XMN-KUL too, leaving behind XMN-KUL flights only. PVG-KUL is a lucrative sector and MU definitely have a shot in introducing PVG-KUL flights.

With MAS doing so well on the KUL-PVG route - it is surprising that MU has not responded with reciprocal flights. I'm sure they will soon now that CZ has withdrawn their one-stop flights (via XMN).

SARS has really hit all the chinese airlines' plans for more services to KUL quite hard! Let's hope traffic starts to pick up soon, especially since Malaysia is china's biggest trading partner in ASEAN
