CO Announces New Service

Tue Sep 30, 2003 2:53 am

EWR-BGI 4x weekly on a 73G beginning 12/18/03
IAH- Cuidad Del Carmen daily ER4 effective 12/17/03

For anyone who has never been, Barbados is a real nice place. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but I've never heard of the other city in Mexico.

We're also getting a nonstop to EWR from TUS starting 12/17. It will be operated by a B735 7 days a week. It's a trial flight so get everyone to buy tickets so it stays! TUS's only nonstop to the NY area!!

CD. del Carmen is in the Mexican state of Chiapas, I think so anyway. I once talked to a person who went there, he said the service was because of the oil business. Thats probably why they started service, to tap some of the untapped oil of Chiapas

Actually, it's in the state of Campeche (in the Gulf of Mexico). But you're right, it's economy depends mainly on the oil industry.

And if you go, be sure to try the Bajan Flying Fish, a local specialty. It's fantastic!

Flyboyaz, are you sure the EWR-TUS flight will be a 735? I am not sure if that plane has the range for that flight (I could be wrong though...). A 737-700 would be able to handle the route without any problem. Is this the first nonstop from TUS to NYC?

Yeah it's a 735...we had it a couple of years ago when they did a TUS-EWR run. The 735 has a range of about 2400nm I believe and its about 1800nm to TUS.

The 735 does have more than enough range to fly to TUS.

Also, the 735 makes the EWR-DFW runs all day long. I wish they'd bump it up to a 73G sometime! Oh well.

CO was flying nonstop (on Saturdays only) between EWR-TUS and EWR-Albuquerque with 737-500s prior to 9-11.

Correct me if I am wrong, but there is no IFE on the 735. That a long haul with no movie. Better crank out the cd player!

Actually Tommy, alot of CO's classic 737's (-300 and -500) do have IFE's. They are the type that hang down from the ceiling. I've seen some that do not but I have flown on some that do.

Actually, only some 733's and no 735's have IFE.

Thanks for clearifying that....I figured the 500's did since they are used on some pretty long flights. We have them in TUS but I never noticed before!

Again, it's only a test so if it does well, I imagine they would upgrade it to a 700 since it is such a long flight without entertainment. I guess the FA's will have to do a dance number  Smile/happy/getting dizzy .

727Lover, SRQ will get a seasonal CLE flight, with the XRJ. Not sure if there's any increases out of EWR or IAH.

It is so interesting that lately CO and COexpress are opening or will open routes based on the oil industry. Since BFL got that big grant to lure CO, and now this little city in Mexico is getting service. CO already has service to other purely industrial locations in Mexico. I've heard Merida is like that. Never been there though.

Many, many, many years ago CO flew to Maracaibo Venezuela. Wonder if they'll be going back.

I think it is only a matter of time before CO starts serving some middle eastern oil "crude destinations." Maybe they would do the old TWA route to CAI and Riyadh or something similar. Kuwait City maybe, maybe? Kuwait goes nonstop to JFK a couple times a week in addition to their flights via LHR.

I've heard they're interested in Dubai. Even though will codeshare with Emirates, they still compete with carriers they codeshare with. Witness KLM and CO competing on the IAH-AMS route.
