More ZRH Winter News!

Wed Oct 01, 2003 1:58 am

After Helvetic.com announced plans to start several destinations (Vienna, Brussels etc.) out of Zurich, Germania Express is to base some of its F-100's in Zurich to start services to, Athens, Saloniki, Brussels, Vienna, Düsseldorf, Hamburg together with the Berlin, Palma and Alicante service which are already operated. Most of the new routes will be served once a day.

Iberia/Air Nostrum is starting a once daily Valencia/Sevilla-Zurich service with CRJ.

It is reported that Unique is in talks with AerLingus and Cathay Pacific to restart service to ZRH....(Oneworld is coming!!)

Any more news?

It would more than surprise me if CX returns to ZRH that quick!

Now that SWISS is in OW and flying their new A 343s to HKG, CX would be better off codesharing with LX on their A 343 flights rather than CX too fly the route with their own aircraft and take away a chunk of LXs business!

So we have Swiss, Helvetic, Austrian and Germania Express competing on ZRH-VIE-ZRH! That is what I call competition.  Smile

Yes, all flights from Switzerland to Belgium vv. are operated with LX/SN codeshares. The flights from Zurich and Basle are operated by Swiss/Crossair Europe and the flights from Geneva operated by SN Brussels.

I have nothing against competition but I think sooner or later some of the above mentioned flights will be cancelled again. I hope not though...

..and let's not forget the ZRH-FOR-NAT charter starting 20.Nov with VARIG / TAM equipment, that may lead to a regular south american schedule once LX drops South America next summer...

I always believed that they keep Sao Paolo??? But it would make sense because their Oneworld partner Iberia has such good connections to South America. It would perhaps make sense for Swiss passengers to fly via MAD into South America and for Iberia passengers to fly through ZRH to Asia.

Vardar Air just has requested daily slots for flights to Skopje!

VDR101 VDR102 26OCT27MAR 1234567 102100 SKP0950 1030SKP

The slot request is for a Fokker 100 with 102 seats (times in localtime).

It looks like the Fokker 100 gets some sort of reincarnation!

Well, the Fokker 100's are getting really common at ZRH lately, with Germania, Montenegro, then Helvetic and now Vardar (if they show up!)

AviationMaster: yes, as they are only receiving 7 A343 to replace 7 MD11's, and keeping (the last) 2 MD11's until next summer for the south america rotation... which are not going to be replaced :-(

Gexx (Germania Express) will also operate from ZRH to LIS with F-100, and on Air Berlin's homepage a daily ZRH-STN flight is bookable....
It must be difficult for ZRH to print a winter timetable as there are some many new flights announced in the last time, I am sure more will follow....

LH is to operate its MUC-ZRH flight with a mix of 737/A319/320 instead of CRJ..

Sadly, HellasJet is to stop its daily ZRH-ATH flights at the end of October....

It seems like it is getting tough for Swiss.

I actually expected LH to upgrade its flights to MUC to B737/A32S.

Wonder how long they will be able to handle this!

Aer Lingus will be returning to ZRH next Summer, three times weekly (TuThSa) with A320s. Flights as follows:

(1250-1605) DUB-ZRH EI 346
(1650-1810) vv 347

LX will continue flights to DUB ... with RJ100s! (Sometimes, civilisation does creep in and we get the odd A320/319).

Both airlines carry each other's codeshares.

@Kaitak: Have you actually flown a Swiss (or Crossair in the past) RJ100? They are surprisingly pleasant to fly in.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The 3-2 configuration makes a huge difference.

SwissBrazil,

Note that this Rotatur flights are operated with two all white (small titles) 767s and we don´t know if they will or not get full colours... Seems that the Rotatur/BRA deal is going through some adjustments and no one knows exactly what will happens...

For a few weeks ago we got some rumours that Varig might start GRU-ZRH-NRT flights, dropping GRU-LAX-NRT due increasing problems with the immigration auth. in the US (transit pax visa and so on...) but since then, nothing more was heard.

Will they suspend the flights to South America completely? That would be very sad. Does anybody also have an up to date phase out plan of the Swiss MD-11? HB-IWN and IWQ are the next, when a look at my list from September.

Does anyone know more about the Helvetic.com flight from ZRH to AMS? According to the site of the Dutch slot coordinator they've requested slots for twice daily on weekdays and one flight on Saturday and Sunday.

I have read in a newspaper today that Germanwings is planning to open a ZRH hub very soon, basing 4-6 aircraft there.

ZRH was already considered earlier but Stuttgart was chosen instead.
