Comparing CO 777 And 767-400ER In Coach

Wed Oct 01, 2003 2:33 am

I've flown four times now on Continental's 767-400ER in coach and really enjoyed it. All flights were on very long flights (EWR-HNL-EWR, 11 hours and IAH-HNL, 8 hours) . Decent leg room, very modern 777-style cabin and, as always, the great 2X3X2 767 configuration. Also, 764 has great lavatory configuration away from the rear coach galleys.

Has anyone flown both the 764 and 777 on CO in coach? Which is more comfortable?

I know 764s are not getting new BusinessFirst seats, so I would assume 777 is far more comfortable in premium class in CO.

hey, I'll admit if I'm flying coach I would rather it be a 767, due to the less chance you have of being stuck in a middle seat, there is only say 30 middle seats on the entire airplane on the 764 and even less on the 762. If you fly with someone, its great to get the "a,b" seats and have the "row" to yourself.

I'd rather fly coach on the 767s. The cabin simply doesn't feel as much like a cattle car with only 7 across.
I've been lucky enough to also fly BF on all three (762, 764, and 777). To be honest, the new BF on the 777s is a big disappointment, so comfort-wise I see them as completely equal. I do not like the single middle seat on the 76s though, it always seems like someone is cutting between aisles right in front of me.

I agree about the 767s. Although the 3-3-3 seating on 777s feels less huge than the 2-5-2 seating. But everything else is the same on all teh 762, 764, and 777s. I recently flew CDG-IAH on a 777 a we sat in the very last row with just 2 seats on the sides. There's lots of room back there. I think that's the way to do it in coach on a CO 777. It's very quiet and we always got served first directly from the galley.

I give my nod to CO's 764 also. In addition to the seating advantage Continental's 767s have 32" pitch versus 31" for their 777s.

im surpirised you dont like the middle single seat on the 76, when checking people in or when flying those are usually always the first to go if they are traveling alone.

OK, I'm going to be a little selfish and say that I prefer the 777, at least in the 2-5-2 configuration. That way, if you get the sides (which I ensure I always do), then you only have 1 person to get over to get out (if you have the window), or you're that much closer to the window if you had the aisle.

In my dream world, I would actually prefer 1-7-1, that way it's great for me. It just sucks for the poor sap in the middle of a 7 seat block!  Laugh out loud

How selfish and indifferent. :p You have to think of everyone. OVERALL 3-3-3 gives a fair consensus for everyone.
What now?

I've flown in coach on CO's 777-200 and 767-400 and the only perceptible difference is the 2-3-2 versus the 3-3-3. In fact, last time I flew on a 767-400 there was someone behind me talking about how much he loved flying on this, his favorite airplane, the 777!  Smile

I have flown on both the CO 777 and the 767-400 and I am almost indifferent. Both have excellent coach class cabins. I still prefer the 777 because it has a wider cabin and taller ceilings and you cannot beat its powerful engines and a feeling of being on a much, much larger aircraft than it really is. However, the 767-400 is equally enjoyable.

My flights on the 777 and 767-400 have been:

EWR-CDG (777)
CDG-EWR (767-400)
LGW-EWR (777)
IAH-EWR (777)

I have to say I've never understood the fascination with the 777 (okay, I know there's a lot of great technical stuff about the ship -- I'm talking lack of pax comfort.)

The first time I flew a 777 was not long after Delta's much-anticipated launch of that service. I flew ATL-CDG and felt like my knees were in my chest the whole time (and I'm 5 foot 4 and 120 pounds.)

Actually, I think 2-5-2 is the better configuration from the passengers point of view. This way only one person has to hop over two seats.
