Brace, Brace, Brace

Wed Oct 01, 2003 6:39 am

I have been in two very scary situations: skidding of an icy runway in Alaska and a near-miss in flight when overflying Brussels. But I was never told to "brace, brace, brace"
Did any of you hear those words on the PA......

I think he is referring to the pilot or flight attendant coming over the PA before impact and saying "brace, brace, brace" in an emergency landing situation.

As for me-no I have never been in a situation like that!

No, he means "Brace" as in "Brace yourself for a crash landing".

I fortunately have not been on a flight where the pilot said that on the PA.

Now it looks like I was correcting AirT85, but he just posted right before me. I agree with AirT85, brace for emergency landing.

Cancidas:
Brace, brace, brace is used in emergencies. An alert to passengers by cockpit or cabin crew to tell passengers to BRACE (for a "non-standard" landing  Sad )

Those words reminds me of when Captain Al Haynes said to his passengers before his ship landed at SUX.

Another scene it reminded me was "Airplanes" whereas the f/a or pilot didn't announce "BRACE" but "Get into crash position" so everyone did, in a panic way. LOL.

At my airline there is no procedure for stating "brace, brace, brace" prior to an emergency landing. And having a FA say it is suspect since they can't really see when touch is about to occur. Maybe it is procedure somewhere, but I guess it is more the product of a script writer's imagination.

Brace, Brace, Brace, would not be used in a near miss, because it would not be a planned emergency, nor would skidding off a runway. Different airlines have different procedures, but most passengers would say, brace for what? They would not know what it mean, unless it was a planned emergency and they were in emergency mode...

we have on a planned emergency (more than 10 minutes ) brace for impact, brace for impact, brace for impact and that is right before touching down....In an unplanned emergency it is bend over stay down, bend over stay down, bend over stay down..................

Ive heard "Folks we have some gusty crosswinds and light turbulence today, so it might be a bit of a rough approach and possible a harder-than-ussuall touchdown, sorry for the inconvenience"... but thats about the closest i heard to the old "brace brace brace"....

I have it never heart on my flights and I hope it will never be. I think if this callout is necessary, it will be a scary sitiuation.

I've heard it from the safety demostration video and it will be called out from captain once abnormal landing will occur.
