Airways August 2003

In the 2002 calendar, NWA lost $798 million. The fleet is a bit old at an average age of 20 years. According to Airways that's double the US majors. That's however not a safety problem. According to a news release, the NWA/KLM will be unaffected by the new KLM/AF business deal.

I need to know some information about NW.

I want to know its revenue last year:
NW Lost $798 Million

Its revenue compared to other airlines
-There were several years where Northwest was the most profitable U.S. Carrier. (source: nwa.com). You can go to their history for more information.
-United, Delta and American lost billions during the same period.
-Continental lost $451 million

Positive Things (Safety, alliances, etc)
-Northwest has not had an accident since 1990.
-NW will be part of what will likely be the strongest alliance in the world. NW, DL, CO, AF, KL, AS among others.
-NW has a strong fleet, with the DC-9s and the Airbus 319/320s being the workhorse of the fleet. Though the DC-9s are old, they are very well maintained, and economical.
-Northwest has an excellent website, nwa.com, which has received numerous awards.
-Northwest has a strong presence in Asia, and is the largest US domestic carrier from the US to Asia.
-Northwest has a stronghold on the upper Midwest of the US. They have hubs in Minneapolis and Detroit, and serve many cities in the upper Midwest that others don't serve, such as Bemidji, Minn.
-Northwest has one of the best on-time performances of any airline. From 1990-2000, Northwest was the airline that was most frequently in first place for on-time performance.
-Northwest will be the first airline to have e-ticket machines at every station, including the smaller cities that are served by NW Airlink, such as Mason City, IA.

Negative Things (No F class, etc)
-Northwest should have a better domestic first class cabin. However, the service is good in first class.
-There is not IFE on domestic flights. Rumors are that it will come back soon, but not until the economy recovers (especially in the airline sector) so they can pass the cost of IFE along to the passenger. Personally I could care less about IFE.
-Northwest has had bad relations between upper management and employees, however, this seems to be improving, and has been improving over the last few years.
-The airline had a crippling strike in 1998 that lasted a few weeks.

The New American is arriving.
