Pay More For Longer/more Flights?

Thu Oct 02, 2003 3:33 am

Would/Do you pay more for longer flights to the same place or more flights to the same place i.e which one would you fly?:

BA113 Heathrow-New York JFK B747-400
BA116 New York JFK-Heathrow B747-400

==================
£215.90
==================

or...

AF1671 Heathrow-Paris CDG A320
AF008 Paris CDG-New York JFK B777-200
AF007 New York JFK-Paris CDG B747-400
AF1370 Paris CDG-Heathrow A320

==================
£277.20
==================

In that case i'd probably fly the Air France one. Three different aircraft types, three different airports, four take-offs, four landings as opposed to one different aircraft type, two different airports, two take-offs, two landings. For just a little bit more. Of course if it was a lot more then i'd go for the cheaper flight but if it was within reason i'd always take more flights.

Nothing's confirmed yet, but my parents have let me travel to see friends in New York on my own as long as it's under £300 rtn. I'm looking into KLM and Aer Lingus too Big grin.

But of course if you're taking 2/3 flights to get there then there's a risk of missing your connection, and in my case, i might be a bit stuck if i'm on my own.

In this case, I'd go for the direct.

Why? Simply because you can book for 60£ an additional flight to for example FRA/AMS/CDG, or even BRU if you want.

This means you are able to be early in NYC, you have less worries about losing your bags/missing connections etc, and you can do a daytrip to a short haul destination in Europe of your choice. Of course, also NCL/MAN/EDI/... can be reached easily for that price.

I would go for a connection/transfer in any case when the additional money I have to pay is less than the price of a flight to somewhere in Europe.

Why not using that money to do a short haul flight to somewhere from JFK?

Frederic

Hi Stephen,
do the AirFrance trip, join Frequence Plus if your not done this before, earn the miles and be sure that your on more than the half way (include welcome bonus if you never joined before)to a free Central Europe trip that started at 20.000 Miles.
BA never honoured special fares (or max. half miles) AF give you full miles.
Your question: If its ever possible to earn more miles, fly a "new" aircraft,
"new" airport and the fare is not much higher I do it for more fun.
