What Songs Do You Like To Listen To On A Plane?

Fri Oct 03, 2003 10:06 am

What songs do you like to listen to on a plane:

classic rock: Beatles, stones, doors, and such.

On a 757/767: Since they were introduced in the 80's: Cars, police, guns n' roses.

What about you? Hope this post will work out!

All the Elvis Presley stuff when we fly in or out of Memphis. Maybe it's a FedEx thing??  Smile Other than that, I just enjoy some good Buena Vista Social Club sometimes. It's relaxing.

This is silly, but there's a song from the 1980s by the Pet Shop Boys "....I've got the brains, you've got the looks, let's make lots of money...." that to this day I associate with a flight I took from London to Chicago on BA in 1986. The song played over and over on the in-flight system and it had this international sound to it that totally fit into the motif.

Yeah, definetly agree with the above statement. Additionally, I also like to listern to early to mid 90s light rock (Primative Radio Gods, Martin Page, etc), and also Eurodance--to get me in the mood for the all those discoteks I visit when I'm in Europe!!!

I just ordered an MP3 jukebox player--an Apple I-Pod lookalike about the size and shape of a Sony Walkman tape player--but with a 20GB hard drive embedded inside it. Its brochure says I can download 667 CD cuts. I think what they mean is that, with the help of my laptop, I can convert 667 CD cuts to MP3 files. But that means I can listen to virtually every CD I own while I'm flying.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Is there anyone else who travels with either an I-Pod or an MP3 player?

Hiphop, rap and house are my first choice for in-flight music. Even classic rock: Journey, Foreigner, Boston, Styx, U2, Supertramp. Flying is great. Flying with good tunes is better.

Nazareth - This Flight Tonight
P.M.& Wings - Jet
Steve Miller - Big Old Jet Airliner
Bob Rivers - Beat Up Old Jetliner !!!

For me i got 2 go with jazz. Somethoing that is relaxfull and chill for the long flight. If it is a short hop under one and a half hours ill go with some R'in'B.

I love just about everything you guys have mentioned...

However, there was a slightly less known artist that I was really into when I started business travel in '95... If any of you recognize her, I will be very impressed...

Her name is Sarah Masen, one of the songs was called "Fly Baby"... something I have always associated with flying ever since.

A little light jazz or easy listening. Something similar to channel 71 on the XM dial also known as Watercolors.

Midmorning or Afternoon: Soilwork

Late Night: Classic Rock (Guess Who, etc)

I don't listen to music much on flights but one verse of a '70's disco song comes to mind..

fly robin fly....up, up in the sky.

and if that verse pops into my head during the t/o run then that's it, it's going through my mind for the duration of my flight... heck, I can't get it out of my head now!!

I listen to ELO and KISS mostly. Rocket Ride would be the perfect KISS tune for take off, if you were allowed to listen to it during take off that is.  Big grin

Eham, Delerium 'Silence' must be one of my top 10 along:

DJ Kim - Jetlag (Alpha Zone RMX)
DJ Jurgen - Airbus A340
Timo Maas - Shifter
DJ Mystik - Send Me An Angel
Faithless - Insomnia
DJ Visage - The Return
Paul Van Dyk - Found An Angel
Shakedown - At Night
DJ Mystik - Rain
Darude - Music

WorldPerks, I always take either my NoMad Jukebox, or the good old NoMad II (If it is a short flight). Can not really enjoy the rush of take offs without a good beat  Big grin

If the aircraft is being flown by an attractive female -- "Take Me To The Pilot" by Elton John.

Once we have landed -- "Looks Like We Made It" by Barry Manilow.

Techno & Trance all the way, especially during takeoff !!!

Portable electronic devices are not to be used until 10,000 ft. Unless it was the aircraft's IFE, you are breaking the rules by listening to that.

Slow Jamz Right Here.

Sun Oct 05, 2003 11:58 pm

I like listening to some nice slow R&B, Soul Music. I guess I am a slow jam kind of guy.

Such as

1. Tyrese
2. Tamia-especially the songs, Who Do You Tell? and Spend my Life With You featuring Eric Benet
3. Whitney Houston
4. Mariah Carey
5. Brian Mcknight
6. Luther Vandross
7. Boyz II Men
8. Mandy Moore- Her best song, I wanna be with you.

and the list goes on.

This type of music doesn't matter, weather during takeoff, cruise or landing. It helps me get that chill down my back when flying knowing I am seeing my Girlfriend.

Thanks

"turn your head, now baby just spit me out"(?)

Any help is great!

Flairport I know what song your talking about!

Its called "December" by the Band "Collective Soul." The song was realeased in 1995, but It was also popular in 1996. Great middle 90's song! Good song to listen to on a plane!

WorldPerks: I travel with a Sony Cd player that reads MP3's which I download off the computer onto cd. Its very handy and the sound quality is grand!

and also IDM or ambient such as Boards of Canada, autechre, µ-ziq
jazz is nice as well: i've had very pleasant flights listening to coltrane, mingus, parker, and amon tobin

Worldperks - I take it you refer to the Creative Labs version of the iPOD? Those things are cool - 2 batteries and you can listen to the it for 22 hours and it's tiny. I am still running off my (now ancient) 6GB 4 hour battery Digital Jukebox which is the size of a CD walkman with 1500 songs on it. The number of songs you can get on the hard drive depends on the bit rate at which you rip the track - anything less than 128 is murder on the ears but 320 produces real quality ripping.

The answer to the question is - any of my 1500 tracks that I fancy - never will I be at the mercy of the airline's IFE.

It is indeed the Creative Labs Nomad Zen. Just changed to Red Chair Software's Notmad to more easily control the bit-rate as you suggest. Thanks for the advice.

Frank Sinatra- Come Fly with Me

Really captures the adventure and romance of the early days of long haul air transport. Somehow whenever I hear that song I have visions of TWA Connies and Pan Am Clippers zipping around in my head, and reminds me of how exciting going flying used to be!
