Air India Or Indian Airline?

Fri Dec 31, 1999 1:38 am

Hi,
This is about the Indian airlines hijacking.I was watching the news last night and noticed the news said that the hijacking was of an Air India. Isn't Air India a totally different airline? Can Air India sue the news program for the misuse of name?

Yes they are two different airlines, one is Domestic (Indian Airlines) and one is International (Air India). They are run basically by the same people. But yes, they are two seperate entities. As far as suing the news, I doubt Air India would, because they are both government run and the suit would be from the govt.

Indian Airlines is domestic, Air India is international. They commonly get confused, however.

It happened again last night - I was watching ABC's 2000 coverage and I think Peter Jennings said Air India instead of Indian Airlines. Anybody else catch it?

my indian friends said Air India is not government r un , Indian Airlines is. However Indian airlines still fly to international destinations ( e.g. BKK , Kathmandhu )

Even a thai TV channel misused the name , that's because most people are more farmilliar with the name Air India
