Ok, and for us Redneck Westerners that can't read the French in the article linked, what is it in a nutshell?

Perhaps AC mgmt attention should be more focused on saving the franchise than silly PR nonsense like this.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

For once I have to agree with Sin747 on this one...

This is a good move PR move on behalf of Air Canada. Not only are they helping to promote their airline, they get to help sick children and their families cope with having to transport around Canada and (the world?). Most of those in this forum know that I have my reservations about Air Canada, but they are helping children.. sick children. How can I disagree?

While Yyz717 may disagree with the funding/financial part of this move, he is justified in putting his own opinion in so don't jump on him for doing so.

In my opinion this was a very good move by Air Canada, not only are they helping sick kids they are also building up a corporate name, that will no longer stand for just an air line but for something more. In my opinion this give AC a lot of attention and a lot more business. After all some people do have feeling and take good jestures in to consideraion. Who would you rather fly with ?... WestJet who newver did anything for anyone or AC who helps sick children get to hospitals. I'm assuming a lot of people who buy tickets will think that way.

Just last week Westjet donated a 737-200 to BCIT's aeronautical facility. There are also plans to donate quite a few more 737-200's to various facilities around Canada as well. So don't say Westhet hasn't done anything for anyone.  Smile

Also, while this public gesture of kindness is a great PR move, don't you think other carriers do the same in a less publicized way? Take the donation of Westjet's 737-200 for example.. Did you also know that Air Canada donated a DC-9 to a college in Thunder Bay? I bet you didn't...

WestJet has transported Air Cadets to YQF for free, flown sick kids on "Dreams Take Flight" type of promotions, and donate plenty of flights as prizes to charities and community lotteries. Check WestJet's website, they have a link there, rather prominantly, on how one can obtain a corporate donation from the company.

AC has had a lot of bad press in the past years, and Canadians (and the media) tend to love to hate Air Canada. It's not all deserved, granted, but AC has definately dug a lot of the hole it's currently in, all on it's own.

It's good to see at least some motions by the company to improve an image which has taken a back seat to other issues which have been brought up in the past couple of years - whether it be their restructuring, the public union problems or the rash of bad PR and AC horror stories that proliferated after AC's takeover of CP.

What is the matter here, AirCanada's financial position or Sick kids? I think that WJ is in a profitable position to do some PR stuff like transporting kids. I think its a great gesture that AC is making and doing for unforturate kids. I don't think this is going to bankrupt the airline, nor do i think this is the magical cure to spring AC out of Bankrupcy.

Is AC making broken promissis? I have heard that they could be shut down soon, soon i mean like in a few months? People say it won't happen but who knows...?? So by setting up this kids thing, could they hurt themselves for the future? Bill got help but tomorrow Bobby didn't because they are bankrupt?

When C3 went down there were airlines that help pick up the pieces, what happens when AC goes down? There are bigger things on the plate than thiis for AC, don't get me wrong this is a really good idea and I am a huge supporter, just the timing is a little off.

Sorry for posting the link in French, I thought it was in English.

My opinion is similar to SIN747, this plane was due for repainting so no money was really wasted for PR. The kites are probably just a decal. Plus, it's great for Canada's children who needs immediate medical care and are far away from large children's hospitals. You can say that AC' management is incompetent, has made stupid moves... but the company (employees and management) has done great things such has this move, Dreams take flight, sponsorship of many cultural and sporting events, etc.
