What Is Your Fav. Phase Of Flight?

Sun Oct 05, 2003 4:38 pm

Personally, I love takeoffs and landings. I will take as many connections as possible. Plane changes on those connections also bring more cockpits to see. Big grin

What do you like? Takeoff, Cruise, Landing??? Taxi?  Smile

I just love the takeoff on the 747's. The sound of those engines at full power gets your adrenaline pumping!

Definitively the whole flight, when I am sitting next to valuable passengers, so nice and interesting that the time is flying supersonically. I was flying on Friday October 3rd with LH FRA-MAA next to a French couple so nice. I will tell you about it in my first flight trip coming soon. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

When a group of mates and I were talking about this, we were all going on about our favourite parts being the increase in engine noise prior to take off, the take off itself, flying at high altitude and of course the landing.

But one of my friends, who hates flying but has to do it because of work commitments, when asked simply commented quietly 'Getting off!'.

It has to be take off just the power in the engines is increased, I just love to hear those engines work it. I also admire approaches Big grin

I can agree with you as well, the more connections = the more take offs and landings Embarrassment

I cant wait till I next fly. Big grin

The best part is the landing. Especially when you hit a bit of turbulence. Getting under the cloud cover is my favorite. I love flying throught the clouds and then all of a sudden you can see the ground . Just breath taking!!!!

Take off, landing and turbulence. The more of each, the better.

id have to agree with u guys B4real and i fly MCo, i like monkeying around on the ticketing websites for hours. i do also like the takeoffs. the whole roar and everything is a good experience, especially on a 343, 744, or DC10.

IFLYMCO and Copaair737:

For sure, seatmap.com, airlines that let you change seat assignments on line, full-featured websites, and hunting for the best fare are sweet.

Glad I am not the only one. I thought I would get bombed for saying that!

I like TOD (Top of Descent) alot. I'll be dead asleep, and I'll hear those engines being pulled back, nose starting to go down, and I'll wake up and start seeing the ground get closer, knowing my destination is almost there (provided it's somewhere I wanna go lol). Also there's alot more manuevering too, seeing the wings work (good photos).

On the MD-88, I love how, when the engines are chopped, and they're getting on the localizer, you can hear the trim horns, and when they've retarded the throttles over the threshold, I can hear the CAWS GPWS sounds go...50...40...30...20...10. Can't hear that any other time.

Takeoff is of couse a big favorite too.....pushin the throttles forward, can't beat it.

Take offs, especially in the big planes. All the spotters are watching and stuff, its pretty cool. Cruising is cool during dusk

Landing, of course. So much to see and so much to do. Whether you're a passenger or the pilot, there's a lot of action in this phase of the flight.

My favorite part is the approach and landing, or as I like to say it, l'atterrissage. Gotta love the sound of those tires touching down, and watching the flaps and spoilers/air brakes.

I love the takeoff but I gotta say the approach and landing do it for me. I like watching the flaps being deployed - it gives you an idea of how big the wing really is. I like watching the spoilers pop up on landing and seeing the wings shake as the plane deccelerates - and feeling the deccelaration itself. But what I look forward to the most is the loud roar of the thrust reversers in action!

1: Take off, specifically when you have a seat in front of the engines, just after they spool the engines you can hear the engines really groaning, not the roar, but the groan. The sound persists until the throttle back when aloft and the extra power is not needed. I presume the sound comes from the blades cutting through the air (am I right here?). Man, that sound is simply the best!

2: With a few drinks under my belt I just love coming in for a landing with a fair amount turbulence. I am relaxed enough to enjoy the bouncing around and watching all the heads and shoulders of the other PAX moving around in unison. Just too much fun!

Takeoff and landing definitely. The approach phase is also great, especially if you're coming in to land at an airport with a scenic approach. Watching the flaps come out and the spoilers come up is great, and as you get closer to the ground you see the plane's shadow beneath you, just super  Smile

I love the approach. It is wonderful being able to get a birds eye view of everything and being able to see a bit of the country before you get there.

For me, the best approach in the world is SFO. We came from London, UK, over wine country, and the GG Bridge, Alcatraz and the city of SFO, across to Oakland and then down past Foster city before touching down. It was fanatsic, I have a great picture somewhere.

1. The first glimpse of the sun coming up on transatlantic flights.
2. Seeing land for the first time in 8 hours.
3. Sunsets at 35,000ft.
4. Watching the a 744's wings flop around in turbulence.
5. The way the tips of the 777's wings are higher than any other plane on the ground.

I love every second of a flight...when I fly commercial, taxiing to the runway is a blast for me, and when we rotate I'm absolutely goofy...

In a small plane I absolutely love banking and final approach. Ahhhhhh...

Approach, especially the downwind leg. There is nothing better than looking out the window and having a great view of the airport that you will be landing at. Then you wonder how far out you will go before making the turn back in for final approach.

Descent, and landing, my favorite part between the two is actually flying through clouds. I watching the cloud matter flow over the wings... I love seeing the pilots lower the flaps/ slats during landing also...

Definately takeoff. There's not a better feeling than when the pilot pushes the throttle up and you sink into your seat. Big grin

1. Flying. Just being up there, I can say I like it all...although I do have my favorites. I remember flying home from DAB this summer. I hadn't flown since January & had this uncontrollable smile on my face for the first couple minutes.

2. Takeoff. I love hearing the engines wind up & roar to life, especially on the 757 (the whine!!). I like getting pushed into my seat when they spool the engines on the takeoff roll. About the only part I don't like is on some planes, where you feel like you're being smashed down due to Gs (again, something I associate with the 757). I don't notice it on some planes, others, I do.

3. Flying at dawn or dusk....I love seeing the first/last rays of light & the orange glow of the sky & cabin when you're up there. Saw a cool sunrise MCO-CLT once! I also like seeing the first rays of light on Trans-Atlantic flights.

4. Landing. Seeing everything set for landing, descent, last minute maneuvers to line up with the runway are the big ones with me. I also like seeing traffic landing on other runways. I'll take a little turbulence here, because I know the flight's going to be over in a few minutes & I won't have to deal with it for long.

Turbulence is my least favorite, unless it's light. I hate getting bounced around & winding up queasy for a period of time.

Mikesairways- I remember the same feeling before I joined- welcome! Big grin

I remember back when I was on an Airtours International A330 from MAN to SFB. We were approaching Canada and hit some really REALLY bad turbulence. My mum was pretty scared, and I couldn't stop laughing. My stomach was just bouncing all over the place. I really enjoyed it.
