AF To Start A319 Long-Range & Winter News

Fri Oct 10, 2003 6:06 am

Air France has confirmed the lease of two Airbus A319LR from ILFC. The aircraft will be delivered in spring 2004, for the next summer schedule.

The A319LR will be configured in a single 48 seats Business Class and will be operated by Air France, with AF Pilots and F/A.

Unlike LH and Privat'Air, Air France will first use these a/c to open new "Petroleum" destinations with a high density Business traffic such as :
BAKU (Azerbaïdjan), MALABO (Guinea), POINTE-NOIRE (Congo), ATYRAU (Kazakhstan). If this service is successfull, new destinations should be added.

Kuwait-City (KWI) and Teheran (THR) should be also re-opened soon, but it is not decided yet if these destinations will be operated with the A319LR or by a more "classical" A332 service.

A new destination in China, GUANGZHOU (Canton CAN ) will be served 5/weekly with an A340. AF will be the first and only European Airline to land in this south-Chinese city.

AF will increase its offer on the Central and South American market :

Hi FLYSCU,

some time ago, AF flew to pointe noir, I don't know if there are still flying there. I heard also that they want to use the planes for a weekly CDG - Hassi Messaoud flight.

But the infos that I got, refer to using those planes on routes that AF already desserve for the petroleum pax, as Luanda or Port HArcourt.

Those new potential destinations are pretty cool! It would be wonderful if Air France put just a few rows of economy in the very back so people like me could someday fly there! If they can fill the planes though in business, then there is really no point in doing that. It's just wishful thinking I guess...  Smile Thanks for sharing this information!

AF did operate flights to Pointe-noire, some years ago. The flights was operated by an Air Charter A320 but it was a Charter agreement with Big Oil companies for a determined period.
LOS (Lagos) & PHC (Port-Harcourt) are important Petroleum destinations but they both have a "regular" traffic also : LOS is now served Daily nonstop from CDG with an A340 and PHC 2/Weekly nonstop with A332.
Additionnal flights with the A319LR could, however, be added later to PHC.

LAD (Luanda) needs a "normal" service, as there is quite a big traffic in Economy Class and First, along with "Petroleum Business". LAD is served only 1/Week by a B777. AF would like to add frequencies, but the Governement from Angola refuses any additionnal frequency to protect TAAG Angola Airlines interests.

Thanks a lot for this very interesting news! The A 319 service to the petroleum destinations is very interesting and a smart step in my opinion.

Very strong rumours of BA considering flights to Malabo too.

LAD also produces rather high cargo loads due to capital equipment for the oil industry-for an economy of its nature, trade accounts for a very high % of GDP relative to its peers.About $14BN a year or so.

But TAAG flies to paris on codeshare. BTW, they have a nice cs.

But Malabo, Hassi Messaoud, Baku, would be great destinations for AF and for....ELF LOL.

FLYSSC, are still working for AF ? Perhaps we meet on the Airport or one of my flights Big grin

TAAG is flying to CDG with a B743 but there is no more code share agreement between AF and TAAG.

Why do you need the LR for Baku and Tehran? At 2059nm repsectively 2267nm from CDG, this would well be within the range of the standard A319!

Anyways, good to see AF follow. We will see more and more of those Business only services in the future for sure!

777 + A340, instead of 1 Daily last winter

Last January I flew AF DXB-CDG-YUL.There were two AF flights to YUL. One was operated by the B767 and the other was operated by the B777, so the frequency hasn't changed, the aircraft have been upgraded.

TAAG's flights into CDG actually go on to LIS as a positioning flight and vice versa!AF were 2 weekly into LAD last year or so;did the Angolan government strip 1 weekly flight off AF?
