Well technically, DL still does serve FLL and MCO from BOS, DL 757-200's are still mainline and DL owns them, they're just operated by Song.

It would be interesting to take a look at an old Northeast Airlines timetable.....when Delta purchased Northeast (back in 1973?) it established its huge presence at Boston Logan and, atleast for the first year or so, DL operated most of routes out of Logan that it acquired as part of the merger.

Based in Boston, Northeast Airlines was purchased by Delta on August 1, 1972. With this merger, Delta served Boston for the first time and has since gone on to be the leading carrier in the market. Northeast was the first carrier to operate the 727-200 in 1967. The 727-200 “Yellowbirds” operated non-stop flights from Miami to Los Angeles. Delta didn’t operate 727s until it merged with Northeast and went on to become the world’s largest 727 operator.

Prior to the Northeast merger in 1973, Delta did not serve Boston at all. When they acquired NE, they took over all its gates in Terminal C (then called the North Terminal, also served by TWA and United).

Service was operated to:

Manchester, NH
Keene, NH
Portland, ME
Bangor, ME
Presque Isle/Houlton, ME
Burlington, VT
Lebanon/White River Junction, VT
Fall River, MA
Hyannis, MA
Nantucket, MA
Martha's Vineyard, MA
Worcester, MA
Hartford, CT
Miami, FL
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Tampa, FL
Hamilton, Berumuda

Shortly after the NE acquisition, Delta dropped Lebanon, Keene, Martha's Vineyard, Hyannis, Nantucket, and Fall River -- most of those routes were picked up by Air New England.

In any case, that's how DL got its Boston presence - after Deregulation it was allowed (finally) to fly to Atlanta - previously pax had to connect in New York, which was another hub for Northeast.

Did they actually run mainline jets between Boston-Worcester??? I know Northeast served Worcester, but I'm not sure of the service levels (i.e. F-227s?) or destinations.

I don't think DL did this NS. But they did fly Worcester-Manchester-Boston!
