Intl. Airlines @ ORD Help

I'm making a list of international airlines, routes, & aircraft type that fly into ORD. Also, I'd like to know their frequency. I welcome all of your help.

I'm just looking for international passenger flight into ORD. Qantas will be an addition, but what a list it would be with some of the older carriers who are now gone: Virgin, Aeroflot, Austrian, Czech, Singapore, are there any others.

Anyway, I appreciate anyones help on this project

Hi,

Aeromexico flies the MD-87 and 757 into ORD and Mexicana A319/320, 757. Aviacsa also flies into ORD daily from MTY with 737-200s. TACA also flies to ORD from Guatemala City, I think they fly 4 times a week, using A319/320.

AIR CANADA flies to ORD from YYZ, YUL, YOW, and YYC

Yes, Air Canada is an international carrier at Chicago  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I've read on other forums that Virgin plans to return to ORD very soon. I've also read that JAT would like to return or ORD as well. As far as international airlines that don't fly to ORD anymore: you can add Olympic to the list as well as All Nippon.

It's really too bad about Singapore, I liked seeing there 777s at ORD, knowing that they fly to AMS...

Another note(s): Swiss usually flys their A330s to ORD now, not the MD-11 (though it comes once in a while). And while LOT usually send 763s, they occassionally send 762s also. BA serves with a 744 daily too.

The Air India service you mention is currently 3x weekly via LHR, but will increase to 6x weekly in December with 3x weekly flights via FRA added.

Pakistan uses a A310, Air France sometimes uses a A330, and ELAL uses the 777 on the TLV-EWR-ORD route

Thai Intl Airways will begin A340-500 flights soon apparently. Why did SIA and ANA drop out? This is a HUGE star alliance hub. It seems that SIA has withdrawn virtually all of the routes they started of late, including Las Vegas and Chicago. I thought Chicago was only suspended, not cancelled. Will Asiana start service now that it is a Star Alliance carrier? I hope so! And maybe Emirates someday!

Just a slight correction:

Swiss still uses the MD-11 to ORD, but only on Sunday. Come November 1, all service will go to the A330.

SQ pulled out because they were offering only 3x weekly service, while UA and KLM offered a daily service; not very attractive to business travellers.

The Las Vegas via Hong Kong flight was axed - they were never profitable.

That must have been a while ago, because they haven't been to ORD since the fall of 2001.

You probably saw the Turkish or SAS A340 (from a distance they can be easily mistaken for Virgin)...

Also, to answere the question about frequency.
SAS flies both ARN-ORD (A333) and CPH-ORD (A343) daily.

Does ANA plan to return to ORD? a month ago I was at the International terminal and they still have their name up in the counters they used. But at the moment I think Aviacsa is using some of their counter space.

You can add Cayman Airways to the list, service to begin December 17. Service is to be twice a week Wednesday and Sunday using a 737.
Living in LA, ORD/MDW will always be home!

ORD really does have an impressive amount of international service - I'd place it fifth in the nation, behind JFK, MIA, LAX and SFO.

I visited Terminal 5 this past Saturday (on a timetable-collecting trip that mostly came up fruitless - only MX and EI were able to provide) and the place was packed. Almost every gate was occupied by a massive aircraft preparing to head out over the Atlantic.

If only Aeroflot, Austrian, Olympic, Singapore and Virgin would return. The rumor is we'll be getting Qantas eventually, and this business about Thai has piqued my curiosity. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the Eastern European carriers eventually set up shop - perhaps Malev or CSA. TAP might also be a candidate, although they don't seem to be adding any new overseas destinations.

Just out of curiosity, when you say you visited T5, you don't actually mean at the indoor boarding gates do you? Because the concourse areas are closed to the public, the public is only allowed access to the ticket counters and food court/shops. So how did you see all the gates full? Granted, you can get a good view from outside (from 294), but only half the terminal's gates are visible from there? Where did you see the other half though; from the roadway along T3?

No, I was in the food court area, and you're right - there's no view there.

I did, however, ride the ATS train over to T3 to look for an Iberia timetable (no luck.) From there, you can see the 'other' half of the T5 gates.

IMHO, this is the more boring half - usually it's just two or three American 767s, a Mexicana Airbus or two, and maybe the USA 3000 A320 or Apple Vacations aircraft. Yawn.

Yeah Jsnww81, I kinda figured it had to be the ATS or the roadway along T3--snapped a couple of pics once from the end of terminal area where the bridge/road begins to descend and gives a good view of the other half of T5. I agree, it is the more boring half, although I have seen AZ and LOT 763s occassionally, and I think KLM, JAL, Turkish, and Iberia are sometimes on that side--but you're right, on any given day it's the AAs, Mexicana, or Apple. I agree, boring...

I don't know if you remeber, but unticketed guests/visitors used to be able to walk around the boarding area in T3 up until a few years back--those where the good ole days. But hey, I'll be in T5 in a few months and I'll take some pics of the terminal and hopefully get them posted on here (if I can figure out how) for all the ORD fans.

Thank you all for your help. Didn't CSA fly into ORD? With the current carriers and the ones who've left, put them all together and you've got one of the best international airports in the world. Of course it is the best in my opinion even though they are missing 5-6 carriers from the old.

When did Olympic fly into ORD? Does anyone think they could return to ORD?
