has tried the Australian market, i.e. SYD
, TWICE before. In the '70's for a short time - lasted less than 12 months - with B707's via NAN
, and then once again in the early '90's - likewise for 12 months at the most - w. the DC-10. They gave up last time, when it became clear that their shiny new (at the time) MD
-11's couldn't do the job non-stop, as they had expected.
Goodness knows that QF
badly needs/deserves some real competition on the LAX
routes, but it won't come from AA
or, I doubt from any US airline. It may eventually come in the form of SQ
, if ever the Australian Government stops doing (in bi-lateral "open skys" negotiations...) whatever QF
tells it to do!!
