Spirit of Hong Kong

Thu Dec 31, 1998 5:33 am

Has anyone here flown on Cathay Pacific's 747-200 "Spirit of Hong Kong"? I think it would be neat if all their 747-200s were painted in similar schemes.

Yea it is a neat airplane. How long are they going to keep that aircraft in service.

I reckon spirit of Hong Kong is the best livery CX ever painted their planes in (althogh that 747 is the only one). I recently flew on a CX flight from CMB to HKG via BKK on an A330. I talked briefly to the pilots who thought landing at the new HKG was as boring as landind at LHR!
What's happened to the site of the old A'port?

Kai Tak is going to be turned into a city within the city. New homes will be givin to the Kowloon residents. There will also be gardens which were the original intention for the site! Alan, did you see any Cathay 747-200s while you were at Chek Lap Kok. I was aware that it was the only "Spirit" aircraft.

The Spirit of Hong Kong livery was a unique and beautiful one. It was also significant historically. However Cathay recently got rid of the livery because it leased that 747-200 to Varig Brasil.

I believe it was in Airways magazine but I am not positive.
