If you take a look at jetphotos.net and the following picture, you will see that YX is only changing the Midwest Express to Midwest. They aren't changing the tail design. Does YX ever plan on completing the livery change with their MD80 fleet?

Perhaps N809ME is just in a hybrid/temporary livery. N813ME is already in the new colors and Midwest is most likely saving the full repainting until the planes come in for heavy checks and simply changing the name stickers for now.

Hmmm... I think they're in a pickle. They are receiving new 717s in the full new livery. They have (at least) one MD-80 in the complete new livery. They aren't painting ANY DC-9s in the new livery. So maybe they're just changing the titles until they can repaint the plane.

Also, with MidEx, I think money is a bit of an issue right now.........

The one MD-81 (N813ME) did not come online until after the 717 was first introduced earlier this year, hence it was painted in the new livery following refurbishment. The rest of the MD-80 fleet will be repainted completely in the new livery when time comes for heavy checks. Though our mtc planning no longer includes the dreaded "D" check, when painting is usually done, they will be done eventually. The only problem is that, with exception of the two MD-88's N701ME and N601ME, the rest of the MD80 fleet was refurbished in the not too distant past so they will be awhile before being repainted. So in the interim they will carry a modified livery. The remaining DC9s in the fleet will not receive the modified livery because they are continually being sold/retired and will be gone from the fleet by end of April 2004. The planes that still carry the large MIDWEST EXPRESS logo are required to carry small titles next to the cabin door stating this aircraft is operated by "Midwest Airlines" as this is our new official name.
