ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) - A Turkish Airlines plane headed for South Africa was forced to return to Istanbul's airport Saturday after colliding with a flock of seagulls, knocking out two of the plane's four engines, the Anatolia news agency said.
The Airbus 340 hit the birds shortly after takeoff early Saturday. The plane's radar was also damaged. The plane turned around over the sea and landed at Ataturk airport.
The passengers were unharmed and left for Cape Town on a different plane, Anatolia said.
