So is that the first ship I see sitting on the line at BFI? I've only glimpsed it from I-5, and its always rush hour, so I can't really take my eyes off the road. I'll have to make a point to go by the field tomorrow.

The delivery flight is scheduled for Monday, October 20th. I'll be checking fboweb.com and flytecomm.com as often as I can to check for the arrival time. I can't wait to see that airplane, it's gonna look amazing with those winglets.

I'll post here as soon as I know the arrival time into MEX.

Hi again,
Well if anybody at the everett plant has a chance to pic this baby before it leaves it will be great. At the boeing web page under news, it says its at everett and the bosses are checking the plane out, so its just 2 days away from leaving this facility. It is scheduled to arrive in MEX on monday the 20th and the ceremony is on the 22.

Seeya and look up to the sky to see this baby approaching MEX!

Thanks

Hello to all. Congratulations to Aeromexico for choosing the Boeing 737. As a Southwest Airlines employee, I know the 737 is like a VW Bug, you can abuse the thing and it faithfully keeps running. One question: did AM ever consider the Boeing 717? I assume the 737 will eventually replace all the MD-80s. If Boeing moves forward with the 717 stretch, would the added range and capacity be of interest to AM?

The 717-200/300X could be of interest to replace the MD-87's in a few years....

Hi SWAFAN,
I just saw the pics of the SWA 737 with winglets, and boy does it look super cool. So where do you work, and what do you do at swa.

Well i don't think Aeromexico will consider the 717, because the 737 700 is arriving because of the dc9s are leaving soon, so the 737 will be the smallest in our fleet when all the md80s are changed, the strategy of AM is to change the md80s for 737 800 and change some of the older 757 with 737 900s.

Its really strange, because this initial order was for 737 700s but when we signed the contract with the company(pilots) the opening page on the screen was introduction of the 737 700/800/900 so i guess that's were they are heading in the future.

Also the strategy of changing the 767 for 777 is still in the air, so who knows.

Thanks and bye!

Swafan,

AFAIK, AM moved the fleet... Dc9s were replaced with MD87s... 737s will replace those MD87s and some MD82s. Also I think AM has options but not confirmed for 15 B737-800s. I think the 737 family will replace the MD80s in the long term. According the the MD80 forum they say that AM got plans to retire the last MD80 by 2008, so maybe 717-200/300x will be a good substitution for the 20 MD87s or more in case AM increase the fleet of 87s.

I think Boeing should add more range to the 717. Definitely, AM it's a potencial customer in the future for the 717.!

Hello Javomd88:

I work with Southwest Airlines marketing in Los Angeles. Did I read correctly that you are a pilot? I am slowly, but surely working my way through my ratings and eventually aim to fly one of those new winglet-modified 737s. We're all pretty excited about the winglets, we never thought we would see them on Southwest planes. The company always said they weren't necessary. I had the pleasure of seeing one of the birds as it was being fitted with the winglets at our Houston maintenance base. The winglets really alter the plane's look substantially.

Once again, AM is on the right track in maintaining an all-Boeing fleet. It's interesting that the majority of the American carriers in deep financial trouble have a mix of Airbus and Boeing fleets. Why, say, Northwest Airlines would want A-330s mixed in with 757-300s, and A-320s with DC-9s is beyond me. My guess is that AM will end up with 737s, 777s, and shall I dare say the 7e7 if it ever gets built. Question for you: I have never had the pleasure to fly on AM. I tried last summer but the flight to Mexico City was sold out. What is the longest flight you operate? Is it with the 767?

I hope this is just the first step in a long way of successful events for AM!

I, too, can´t wait to see the new bird in our country. Guys in MEX, please don´t forget to upload the pictures!

Can somebody tell which rutes it´ll be flying? I know there is a flight to CUN (at least on the 18th of Nov.) but would like to know if there is any chance I would see it in VSA

Best to all

Swafan:

The longest flight for AM so far is MEX-CDG (Paris) on either the 762 and 763. MEX-MAD, MEX-SCL, MEX-LIM, MEX-GRU are also long routes.

Thanks for the info Fly727. It seems the 777 would be perfect for that MEX-CDG route. Although it's larger than the 76, it ultimately is a very versatile airplane and likely has lower operating costs than the 76.

JAVO,

Hopefully you're a Rapid Rewards member and are booking your flights online. It only takes four round-trip flights to earn a free ticket anywhere we fly.

You mentioned PHX, I'm curious: are you a regular overnighter at the AM Tempe, AZ crew hotel? I think you may know a friend of mine that works there. She has always mentioned a certain AM pilot who is as big, if not a bigger fan of aviation than I am.
