Concorde Spotting

Mon Oct 20, 2003 12:47 am

On October 24th, where are good spotting points for Concorde. I know a few places but the police will be there so they probably won't be happy. Are there any good spots???

I guess there will be much more people than police agents, so don't be too scared  Big grin

Just stand where you want, but of course do not block any traffic etc.

Good vantage point: depends from the runway in use on that day... Just follow the crowd  Big grin

I went up to see it take-off today from ontop of the Terminal 1 parking garage. To my surprise there were also a few other guys takin pictures as well. It was my first time watching it take-off, and man was it loud. There were a lot of security patrols around the garage but never stopped us.

Keep in mind the last concorde departs JFK at 7am Friday morning while it will still be fairly dark.

I have the same question but different location. Anyone know any good spots in JFK?

I'd like some of that info too, for JFK.

I guess it depends what runway you want to watch - for the southern runway, if you catch the choob to Hatton X, walk out to the left of the roundabout, past the Barclays Bank, turn left and walk into the carpark for the BA technical area (it used to be outside the security cordon, not sure these days), you can get very close to the end of the southern runway eastern end - Concorde taking off used to set off car-alarms there, so its pretty close.

For the other runway, for the Eastern end, as well as to watch aircraft crossing the perimeter road between the TBA//J/K hangars and the main airport area, there's a roundabout about half a mile up the road from Hatton X which is a popular breeding ground for the Lesser-Spotting Anorak.

On Friday expect the last three Concorde flights to follow one and other onto runway 27R at around 4pm. The road that connects Hatton Cross to the BA maintennance area will be closed from 2pm to all traffic and pedestrians. My advice is make sure you are in the area of 27R before 2pm and then pick your spot, either side of the north perimeter road will be absolutely full of people and the traditional 27R spot will be swamped.

It's gonna be crazy but I hope you get to see what you want.

Well, if you can't be at LHR in person, it is on BBC2 TV from 1530 to 1630.

'Concorde: the End of a Dream'

For those overseas it is being broadcast simultaneously on BBC News 24
