Gulf Air A320 Crash

Mon Oct 20, 2003 6:55 am

In the summer of 2000, some time in July i believe, a Gulf Air A320 crashed shortly before touch down in Al Manama, Bahrain (or was it Doha?). I never did find out though, what caused this tragedy. Does anyone out there know? Thanks

I think it was shortly after the concorde crash, perhaps in august or something.

hmm...trying to remember what happened. I think it had to make a go around because it was approaching the runway too fast and too high. As it was climbing for some reason it went into a dive and crashed into the sea. something like that I believe.

perhaps someone else can clear it up?

3 Cheers for MD-11s, MD11 Lover!

Yes, it was shortly after the Concorde crash. I remember being in Bosnia at the time, and, not understanding the language, could not fully comprehend what happened. Maybe it stalled during the go around?

BAH is a very very black airport. Set next to the sea, often with blowing sand/dust, there are not a lot of lights and a horizon to distinguish where you are. It is very easy to experience spatial disorientation, and definately not a good place to fly visually at night, or to come in hot and high, which is what caused their go-around in the first place. We are always extra careful about that when we fly there.
