United BusinessOne?

Mon Oct 20, 2003 12:54 pm

Does anyone remember the United BusinessOne service that operated from the close-in B gates at O'Hare in, at least, 98 and 99?

Does anyone know the details of those services? I never actually got on one of the flights, but always saw the logo by the gates to popular business destinations.

I was always jealous - they were right by the entrance and my flight always left from the far end of C.

They flew To major buisness cities on the East Coast hourly. LGA, BOS, PHL, ATL and I think HPN. The Coke kiosk was only in ORD. They could not get permission in cities where UA shared a concourse w/ OA's. The other major "selling feature was that the gate agents would work ONLY BizOne flights. Frequent flyers got toknow the agents and the agents began to anticipate the needs of those travellers.
BizOne survived until early 2001. In 2000 the CSR's came under IAM contract provisions. BizOne agents had to be interviewed for thier positions originally. W/ the contract that was no longer possible. With out specialized agents working those flights in ORD and the other cities the "product" became meaningless, and so it was discontinued.

PHL still retains an hourly schedule to ORD. And we still call those agents Bizone agents, mostly out of habit. But now we rotate people in and out of those slots on a daily basis.

I do remember the BusinessOne service at O'Hare. We were returning back to Phoenix (our plane originated in LGA) in March of 1996. I remember that there was complementary drink service provided by a soda fountain, coffee and juices were also available. Even at 15/16 yrs old I thought it was a nice service. All flights leaving from the close-in B gates and free coffee or soda is a good thing to have. Too bad the new contract pretty much elimated the specialized customer-service position... seems like a really good idea.
