Mon Oct 20, 2003 1:46 pm

Here's an article i have just found in my secret archives :

Lufthansa Orders 15 A340s with V2500 SuperFan Engines
Anonymous. Aviation Week & Space Technology. New York: Jan 26, 1987. Vol. 126, Iss. 4; pg. 34

Abstract (Article Summary)
Lufthansa German Airlines has ordered 15 Airbus Industrie A340s equipped with International Aero Engines V2500 SuperFan engines and taken an option on 15 more. The airline is the first to select the new aircraft.

-->Was the A340-200/300 program launched with a choice of 2 engines ? When did V2500 step down from this project?

IAE was planning on making a V2500 Superfan version for the A340, it was offered for some time, but for reasons I don't remember (lack of orders? technological problems?) the program was scrapped. This left only the CFM56 available for the aircraft.
