Bussiest Route In The World?

Sun Jan 02, 2000 2:46 pm

hi to everybody,

yesterday i was quite surprised to read that the bussiest route in the world (between to cities) is Haneda (Tokyo)- Sapporo! ( 8 Mio. Pax/Year) i would have never guessed that !

Source: ATW (Air Transport World)

The next surprise was that Seoul Kimpo A/P is the second bussiest in Asia!!! ( in terms of PAX-Traffic fpr total year 1998)
1. Tokyo (HND)
2. SEL (19,9% inc. to Previous year!, i quess because of the slow down in 1997)
3. HKG
4. BKK
5. NRT
6. SIN
7. SYD
8. KIX
9. PEK
10.TPE

Ever seen the Guiness Book of World Records 2000? The buisiestg route in the WORLD is Paris-London, with 9.2 million passengers in 1999,the buisiest route from one Continent to another is London-New York with 2.2 million a year

Hi TWA920fly

well could be whereas the a/c deployd on this route are rather small a/c (mostly 737, A320) compared with 742, 763 for Tokyo-Sapporo.(ANA alone flys 14 roundtrips/day mainly on 742) I will check it on Monday, since i have access to CRS and will calculate the seats offered during one week X 52.

Thanks/best regards

I am not talking about seats offered, but about people carried. Also, I am talking about all the airports-Paris ORY, CDG and London LCY, LHR, LGW, Stansted, Luton.

I Stand Corrected!

Sun Jan 02, 2000 3:25 pm

in my first posting, i should have written: ... between two airports!
you are right, if one adds all the traffic of all these a/p it must be more than the japanese route!

Thanks for info./best regards

Are you sure TWA920fly??
As far as I heard and read, since the Channel Tunnel opened, traffic on the London Paris route had dropped to about 3 million, and the Dublin-London route became the busiest with 5 million carried.
However, I may also stand corrected, anyone else want to throw their hat into the ring??

I really do think that London-Dublin cannot be the buisiest route. Dublin is way too small. I read someplace that between two airports- it would be Tokyo(Narita) to Osaka. That's closer to what Amir said. Still, the buisiest international route is London(LHR)-Paris(CDG), maybe what Amir meant was the buisiest route within one country.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

-Happy what ever you celebrate.

The last time I checked that, the busiest route between 2 cities was London-Dublin but maybe it's not anymore.

I read somewhere that London-Dublin was the busiest INTERNATIONAL route. That would include all of the possible different airports. It may not seem to be between really big cities, but the article I read that in said it was largely due to commuting traffic, as Ryanair and such had made it economical to commute to work by air. I can't say that's for sure a fact, but that's what I read, anyways.

OK
According to Airways December 1999, this years figures for passenger traffic by air between London and Paris (all airports) is going to be about 2.8 million. According to Airways April 1999, Dublin-London is the busiest INTERNATIONAL route in the world with over 5 million passenegers carried last year. Thus Amir, internally, Japan probably takes the honours,
but I suggest TWA902fly that you don't knock Dublin so quickly, we are gearing up for over 20 million passengers to use it within the next 5 years, and aren't so small as you may think!!

Thanks Pilot21! i learned something new! i would have never guessed that.
The Information i had about the Tokyo-Sapporo route was from ATW issue (Oct or Sep99) and in fact they didn't specify if they mean domestic or internationsl, they just wanted to point out the role of ANA (NH) in the domestic japanese market.

Thanks for all of you! happy new year

I recently heard the busiest route in the world is TSA-KHH, but that may be rather for frequency then for total passengers. The aircrafts range from F100 to B757 and you have a flight every 10 minutes during the whole (opeartional) day.

Best Regards,

Hi F-WWW

Mon Jan 03, 2000 4:23 pm

i just checked the schedule between TSA and KHH it's indeed amazing! about 50 flights/day
maybe because KHH is the biggest container port in the world. However i don't think they will rank top in number of pax due to the rather smaller aircrafts deployed.

just for info: Taiwan has about 22 Mio. inhabitants!
