Best&Worst Airports

Sun Jan 02, 2000 5:08 pm

I have read all this stuff on what people believe is the best airport- I want to know what YOU think
I think Traverse City(TVC) Cherry Capitol Airport is the best, followed by
ORD
BOS
MCO
ATL-not too interesting, though
EWR-not bad
LAX-the worst of all
life wasn't worth the balance, or the crumpled paper it was written on

DEN is a nightmare. Anyone who has been there understands. Ontario, CA is nice. Small, easy parking, easy boarding. Any city under 300,000 population seems easy to get in and out of. I've never parked at or been dropped off at STL. Been through it a half-a-million times as a TWA FF. It's okay as long as you don't have a TWE connection. If you do, it's a long walk.

It's a while since I last went there, but Lisbon gets a big thumbs down from me.

I was so lost in thought about how awful Lisbon was, I forgot to mention my best, which without doubt, was Gatwick.

I think Hong Kong Internation Airport is the best airport and Manila International (Terminal 1) is the worst airport I've ever seen!

from what i experienced: SIN Changi ist the best!
LHR is fine but too long to connect if you change the airline.
ORD, YVR are fine.

and yes i also agree, MNL is quite bad.

one of the worst i've flown in was Milan MXP. Terrible ATC followed by Athens. Always a pleasure flying into LHR after a long haul!

You bet Lisbon was awful, I remember arriving there and until I was outside looking for a taxi, I have passed throw all kinds of small narrow corridors and stairs, even an inside car parking. When I leaved the plane I didn't know where to go so I followed the other passengers.
I said "was" because Lisbon is building new terminals so I hope it will be better. The new arrivals terminal is ready.
Here at FAO the airport from a passenger point of view is very intuitive and easy to understand. Departures on the right side and Arrivals on the left side and on the same level, very easy.

The Best And The Worst....

Sun Jan 02, 2000 11:39 pm

I have to say that HKG's new airport is quite impressive from a passenger's point of view. It is spacious, new and clean.
Copenhagen also have a very classy airport. Wooden floorboards, open areas, it's quite quiet and has nice shops selling some pretty cool stuff. If only more were like it.
As for bad airports, Kai Tak was a horrendous place. Even though it had that 'special' atmosphere and was great for watching planes, as a terminal itself it was way past it's time.

CPH is as CX flyboy a very nice airport....
PRG is nice too as well as CDG and WAW are not too bad.....

WORST IS OF COURSE ATH and SOF!!!
I won't ever go to athens nor sofia until they build new terminals or completely new airports!

Well HELLO!!!

Here in Finland Helsinki's airport, HEL (EFHK) was voted the best in the World. It has good connections, it is not too large and all are clear there. Shops are good...

Best wishes from snowy Helsinki, Finland

ABQ by far is the best airport in the US. It's the most visually pleasing, and user-friendly.

like an "airport-garbage")...very dirty, Luxor
some Mig-21 can be seen in the hangars   ,
Milan Malpensa also...

I've been to ABQ, and I thought it was a pretty nice airport too. Certainly among the nicer ones I've been too, but I don't know if it was the best. Of all the airports I've been to, I would nominate my home airport of Calgary International (YYC) as among the best. It's not too big, but not too small, just a nice size, and a really nice facility.

Although I love the american airports, because they let you go to the boarding room (some of them), my prefered it's still Zurich international followed by LAX (you have to walk A LOT, but it's a good airport)GIG and RNO

I think Stuttgart airport in Germany is the best one because the ways are short and it's very nice. With the new Terminal 4 in it will be almost perfect.

In the US the best one is Philadelphia Int'l.
In Canada it's Vancouver Int'l.

Hey everyone,
Here are my lists:

1.) Orlando International Airport (MCO). How CAN'T you love this airport? It's a mall, hotel, clean, and easy to get around.
2.) Singapore's Changi. I just like it, plain and simple.
3.) Kai Tak. Clean, and nice view. Approaches though.....
4.) Manchester, NH (MHT). Small and convinent. Service to many cities (EWR, CLE, MCI, ORD, MCO) from a commuter airport.
5.) LaGuardia. Good airport from a business traveler's view.

WORST
1.) Cleveland Int'l. The terminals are too plain. You feel like you are in an empty hall.
2.) Miami Int'l. Too dirty.
3.) LaGuardia. From a non-business traveller's view.
4.) Atlanta. Too confusing, and a VERRRRY long walk if you get lost.

AND THE WORST: The OLD Stapelton Int'l. Just Awful.

Currently, the WORST airport in the USA is Detroit Metro (DTW). The concourses and alley-ways are very narrow, there are not enough gates, parking sucks, and airport access is always bottle-necked during peak periods. Connecting with NW flights at DTW is a nightmare! By far, it is thw worst major facility in the US that I have seen.

Fortunately, the county is now building a new mid field terminal with 76 new gates, an additional runway and new access roads. The new terminal is supposed to be "the best of the best" when completed next year. This expansion is years over due, since the airport is WAY over capacity. If any of you have been to the Northwest Terminal at DTW, you know how aweful it is. NW actually instructed their pilots to always point out the new mid field terminal to the passengers as they pass the construction while taxiing. They want to continually remind their costumers that they are fixing the problems. Interstingly, DTW is one of the fastest growing international gateways. NW alone flies non-stop to NRT, NGO, KIX, PEK, LGW, FRA, CDG, MXP, FCO and AMS. Alitalia will also begin daily flights to FCO in April.

The best:
1. Cincinnati
2. Amsterdam
3. Denver (believe it or not)
4. Raleigh/Durham (AA terminal)
5. Vienna (it's just beautiful, I thought it was great!)

The worst:
1. Sofia (to my chagrin, 'cause I'm from there)
2. Old DCA (haven't seen the new terminal yet)
3. LHR (I don't know why people are so hyper about it, it's so old and cramped)
4. DFW (you need to have a chopper to go from one terminal to another)
5. Dorval (why these Canadians abandoned YMX? I thought it was the better of the two)

Hey..none of you mentioned my city's Washington National Airport? It's an average size -- not a long walk...nice view to watch planes especially from TGIF resturant....and nice shops (same prices you can get at any malls). I like the new part of the DCA (the old part is bad...but they should be great sometime soon). The reason I like DCA is because of the subway system...just a walk over and then zoom home.

Best:
Portland, OR (It will only get better when the expansion is finished.)
Seattle, WA
San Francisco

Worst:
Norfolk, VA
St. Louis, MO
Newark, NJ (I admit I haven't been to EWR in quite awhile and maybe its gotten better)
