Comments On Air Tahiti Nui

Fri Oct 24, 2003 12:17 am

I am planning a trip to Tahiti for next year and am looking for some feedback on Air Tahiti Nui. Areas of interest are comfort, schedule reliability, and in-flight meals. Other competing carriers in this market are Air New Zealand and Air France (none of which I have feedback on). Any comments are appreciated. BTW, the ATN flight would be the LAX-PPT flight on the A340.

You could try asking "AFCabinCrew" about both Air Tahiti Nui & Air France.......
Hope this helps....

I've heard service, food, entertainment (PTV's!) are very good, let down only by the cramped seating- not as sardine-like as Corsair though.
Reliability is much better now that the fleet has several aircraft- when they only had about two A340's they had some horrific delays due to no substitute aircraft being available.

I'd do Tahiti Nui one leg and Air NZ the other leg

I have read numerous articles on them and it sounds real good, tho Tahiti anything would be nice.

I flew ANZ LAX-HNL-RAR and back and found the service to be excellent. I also liked getting United Mileage Plus credit for the miles.

My family and I flew TN LAX-PPT return in the spring of this year, and I found their service to be very good. Comfort was adequate; the IFE was interesting, but at a price- the computers housing controls for every several units took footspace away under seats... in addition, the IFE screens would lock up periodically and have to re-boot. Glad the FBW is not programmed by the same group (right?!).

Food was nothing remarkable, but served the purpose. Cabin staff ranged from ordinary to very nice, and the aircraft was very, VERY clean.

One funny event- On our flight south, there was this person always sitting on the jumpseat at the back right across from the lav (I mean, right THERE!). I assumed that she was non-reving, but upon discussion (while I waited to use the loo), I found out she was a revenue passenger. That's a first, in my experience.

Only other complaint is that, on the way back from PPT to LAX, the cabin purser decided to turn on a Tahiti advertising and promotional video (comercials for hotels, restaurants, etc.) on the IFE, set to preempt everything else (including other programs and games). This, when we were headed back. Complaints did not help. Very bad choice.

But the airline, on the whole, was just fine. I would certainly fly them again.
