BAA To Ruin The Party?!

Fri Oct 24, 2003 2:24 am

My dad heard while at his meeting today at Heathrow that if the crowds become out of hand tomorrow then BAA had plans to divert all three concordes, one to Gatwick, one to Cardiff and one to (Bristol?), leaving 60,000+ guests at Heathrow with nothing.

They have been given slots for these airports already, however they will only be used if it does get chaotic (which BAA also indicated that there was a high chance of happening).

Their reasoning was that they needed to perform normal operations, and the conjestion would stop people who are trying to get to the terminals from getting there, therefore missing their flights.

I can see their idea, but surely they could do more to organise it so it doesn't get too chaotic.

If they do not need to divert then their slots for Heathrow are:

15:50
15:52
15:55

They are almost certain it'll be a 09L/27R arrival, however the wind at present indicates that they'll be arriving from the west, therefore guests at the visitors centre will only catch them going past in a good view rather than a touch down.

For those who are interested, BAA also said there were 5,000 people at heathrow watching it's last weekend arrival/departure (when i was there).

They also said there were 15,000 at Manchester yesterday

Good luck to those guys who are lucky enough to be going to see it tomorrow, I'll have the joys of school  Sad. I hope it all works out Big grin

As an aviation enthusiast AND someone who has to travel through LHR tomorrow I have to say that I'll be really hacked off if my travel plans are disrupted. I certainly hope the Police manage the situation around the airport and that if necessary the BAA refuses access to the terminal for anyone not travelling.
