Air Sahara To Start India-CMB Flights In 7 Days

Fri Oct 24, 2003 10:36 am

From : The Hindu Businessline

Air Sahara, India's 3rd largest airline is likely to be the first private domestic airline to breach the international airspace. In a statement here, the airline has said that it plans to offer a daily flight on the Delhi-Bangalore-Colombo sector within seven days.

Officials indicated that if permission is given then the airline will also look at launching another flight from Mumbai to Colombo, besides expanding operations to offer a flight from Chennai also. "We hope to launch the flight from Delhi on or around October 30, depending on permission from the Government," officials said.

The airline plans to use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft offering a total of 168 seats in both business and economy class to start the service from Delhi to Colombo. The flight is scheduled to leave Delhi at 7.05 p.m. and return from Colombo at 5 a.m.Airline officials said that the operations of the flight would be so timed that passengers from Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Goa connect with the proposed Delhi-Bangalore-Colombo flight.

**My prediction and advice of using the B 737-800 was right on the mark as Sahara is going to be using this version of the 737NG on its inaugural CMB flights from DEL and BLR  Smile

Did u add the bit of the 737-800 yourself? Because I think they would start off using their smallest aircraft the 122 seat -700's.

The proposed timings (all late night, early morning) show that Air Sahara does not intend to disturb their doemstic schedules that much. DEL-CMB will be at 1930 while CMB-DEL will be at 0400. BOM-CMB will be at 2330 and CMB-BOM at 0500. DEL-CMB will be via BLR.

The existing fleet should be able to fly this schedule easily.

Did the Sri Lankan Aviation Department already grant the traffic rights into CMB? Will SriLankan Airlines profit of the additional flights from India into Sri Lanka?

No I didnt add anything :P

They would be fools to use the -700s and not take advantage of the -800 having extra seats especially since they will take pax from DEL and BLR + those connecting from these 2 cities so the -800 is warranted. Plus a lot of pax will be low yield eco class holiday travellers and not J class pax so the extra 40 odd seats in the -800 helps a lot!!!

Great.

Hopefully a first step in having Jet and/or Sahara widebodies ply on the India-EU-US routes and an end to the wretched AI/IC go-nowhere monopoly. I would think that Indian companies could offer plenty of competition to Emirates and other gulf carriers who funnel a huge number of Indian passengers through their hubs.

Good news for CMB. It's a shame I won't be able to see an Air Sahara 737 in CMB on my visit to the airport in 15 days.  Sad

No one? My personal opinion is, that the Sri Lankan government doesn't allow Jet Airways to offer daily flights from BLR into CMB without getting something as well. I wonder what if could be ...

My personal opinion is, that the Sri Lankan government doesn't allow Jet Airways to offer daily flights from BLR into CMB without getting something as well.

SriLanka and India signed an open skies agreement earlier this week, so there is no question of traffic rights being obtained. Hence the sudden rush.

I didn't know about the open sky agreement.

So this means, that SriLankan Airlines or any other Sri Lankan Airline could fly into India where ever they want and as many flights as they want?
