Historical Traffic Into Evansville, IN

Fri Oct 24, 2003 3:30 pm

I remember as a kid flying into Evansville, IN (EVV) in 1981 aboard a Delta DC9-30 from ATL. On the tarmac, I recall seeing a USAir DC9 and an Eastern DC9 as well as commuter aircraft. Prior to my departing flight, I remember seeing a Delta 727-200 departing for Chicago in the boarding process. Now those days are gone and EVV is strictly a turboprop/RJ market. Is anyone familiar with the historical traffic there? Do any cargo airlines fly larger aircraft in there now days?

As of 1985, Piedmont was flying three daily B737-200 to Dayton from EVV. Ozark had seven daily flights on Air Midwest Metros to St. Louis.

Going back to 1981, Eastern had two daily jet flights: one to ATL, one to SDF.

I remember seeing US 737-300s at IND bound for EVV in the late 80s when IND was a minihub. Sad about no mainline traffic.
