Contrails Visible From Space?

Sat Oct 25, 2003 6:21 am

Are airliner contrails visible from space, i.e. low orbit like 300 km (space shuttle)? I am also trying to find pictures of airliners in flight (or contrails) taken from a satellite or low orbit manned vehicle like the space shuttle?

I would think that to the naked eye that they probably wouldnt be...just too small and non detailed from that high up...alas I havent been in space so I cant say for sure...

I don't know about space. But I read somewhere before that U-2 pilots say that from the altitude they fly at ,if they look down at a contrail, they look the same to them as they do to us looking up.
