Farewell Concorde (A Poem)

Sat Oct 25, 2003 1:38 pm

Farewell to Concorde.
By Ryan A. Bert
October 24, 2003.

Once again the world of aviation mourns,
Our Icon is gone.
It went so fast, and was so sleek
Many missed a chance to peek
Upon your curves as you touched the sky

Goodbye old Girl, rest in peace
Though you fly no more
We still love you.
You proved your worth for thirty years
You will live on for far more years
You are priceless, I???ll chance to say
Why won???t Airbus simply pay?
We want to see you fly again.
You aren???t a workhorse, but an elegant dame
Get some rest; you???ve done your work

Strong you still might be
If it were not for tragedy.
Both nine eleven and seven twenty-five
Co-contributors to your demise
Ten twenty-four, a dark day
We bid you farewell today
We will survive, with you in our memory
Goodbye old Girl, Rest In Peace.

I wrote this poem today in class. I hope you like it. I remain one of those who have not see in person the Concorde take to the sky  Crying

Very nice poem. But I must say that that as much as i Love aviation and the concorde itself, i think people are just WAY too emotionally attached to something that is simply just a plane. A technological wonder and beauty to see fly but nonetheless it was just a plane

I think it is more than just any old plane. If 777's retired I wouldn't feel unhappy. For Concorde I do feel unhappy. I don't know why though.

Simply just a plane?

A plane that can travel twice as fast the speed of sounds. it's just a plane?
When 747's and 777 or 330s fly at mach 2 then Concorde will be just a plane.

Don't get me wrong but Concorde it's not just a plane.... it's THE plane

I was luckily enough to be at LHR for her last day and the memories will live forever on my mind, the sounds the sights it was just amazing.

Cheers

Some people get emotional some dont. We need to accept the differences.

VS340: all you needed to say was nice poem. So i tend to get more emotional than you do, big deal. Yesterday was a crappy day for me because i had planned to be in NYC for this final departure, i couldnt go, so i wrote a poem, sue me if you think its superemotional, thats me. And i knew when i placed it on here that some would like it some wouldnt. Personally keep you opinion to yourself.

"Better to keep you mouth shut and let people think your dumb, than to open it and remove all doubt"

This is all I will say in defense of my Poem.

VS340, my mother told me that yesterday, when i took the remote to look at BBC. "What is wrong with you? Why are you getting so excited? It is just a plane!!"

NO!!!! It isn't just a plane. It was a supersonic "one-of-a-kind" commercial airliner. Its birth was decades ago, and still a replacement has not been created. It is very sad to see its retirement. In someways, aviation has regressed. If by the time I have a son, and a replacement has not been made, I would have to say to him, "Son, years ago we could have flown to london in 4 1/2 hours from Barabdos, but the aircraft that could have done that was retired. Too bad you guys don't have one in your time."

Sounds strange but it is the reality.

Well all goods things tend to come to an end. It was a great plane, allow it now to rest in peace, and let its memory remain alive for years to come.

P.S. Tguman don't get too upset. BTW your quote is my Hotmail address signature. I was wondering for a second if i sent you an email.. LOL Great Poem guy.
There is something special about planes....

I agree with you TGUman captaink and futureualpilot

It just makes me sad to hear people say "it is just a plane" knowing what she had done for aviation, no other airliner in the world had turned more heads or beat records like concorde, Even people that had no idea about aviation knew what concorde was

Concorde will always be one "Concorde the true King of the skies!"

"Born from dreams, built with vision, operated with pride....Thank you for flying British Airways-Concorde"
