Video Of Jet Blast Blowing An Airport Vehicle Away

Sat Oct 25, 2003 2:59 pm

Does anybody have a link to that one video of a 767 at SFO testing what full power does to an airport truck when driven behind it?

It was a 747, and I believe it was a United 747.

we have to watch the thing yearly to help us remember not to drive 20 feet behind the running engines of a widebody.

...Oh WOW !! I remember that one. Your talking about "Jet Blast: It Will Blow You Away!" right? The one with the old lav-truck with no engine in it that gets pulled behind an airport fire truck? That was sweet !!  Big thumbs up I had to watch that when I started at the airport in here in LIT when I was a fueler.
I don't know where to find it on the web though.. sorry!

Are you sure it was a 767? I go to work tomorrow and will see. The video is only like 8 minutes long but it is pretty entertaining.
maybe it wasn't UNITED, I thought it was because they made us watch it, thought it was an inhouse video.

Accidentally,
That was great! I forgot how funny that was!  Laugh out loud I know it is a serious safety issue but it's still hillarious to watch! ... better than Hollywood!

Im not 100% positive that it was a 767> Seeing as the video only shows the empinage of the aircraft which makes it difficult to tell, but it does have that familiar slant that the tail sits on and after looking through numerous photos of various different large aircraft i would say it most closely resembles the 767.

Thanks for the links guys.

Actually I think that's a 744 because you see what appears to be a wingtip in the video.

Im pretty sure that is a 767, the empinage looks nothing like the 747's. I don't see the wingtip either

The video they showed us at LAX was of a UAL 744 at SFO blowing a lav truck, just like GulfstreamGuy said. The 744 had its engines going full power and blew the lav truck right into the water.

The lesson: Don't drive behind a running engine.

GulfstreamGuy was right.... AWESOME video!

Hmmm, now I'm not sure if it's a 744 or 763. The APU exhaust looks like that of a 763, but I remember the video talking about the damage that can be done from a "747 running at idle speed."

Oh well... one thing is the same... it's still a great video!

Its a 767...

#1. Its just shaped like one.
#2. Tailcone.
#3. Door. A 744's is under the tail further.
#4. Registration location in relation to the door. On most UA 767s, it was next to the top of the door (see video). The 747's was always higher.
