I had heard that JL, OA, and SU do on selected services. Anyone confirm this?

Earlier this year I was on an AB flight from DUS to LPA, they still allowed smoking in the last few seatrows. As far as I know is it not allowed on AB's city shuttle flights, only on the charter flights.

Are you sure about SU? I thought they became non-smoking some time ago.

Cubana apparently allows smoking in all of its wheezing, aged aircraft, according to this - http://www.tobacco.org/news/118869.html

I was told by a former DL Flight Attendant that when she worked the L1011, she would always go to the lower galley and have a cigarette. Pretty Sneaky. She said she hated it when they retired the L1011s

SU became all non-smoking;
strangely enough such a radical change happened just a year ago and also just after a row between Aeroflot and the US, the latter having banned smoking on all flights serving the US, and Aeroflot having picked up quite a market serving chain-smokers; in retaliation, the Russian authorities demanded that all airlines flying into Russia (and from the US, haha) needed at least one Russian speaking crew member on board, so teasing DL....

Wasn't there a bid in the late 80's by some group to start an airline for smokers in the US?

I miss smoking on long flights (ie LHR-SIN) but it is pretty gross for non-smokers in such a confined space. And as for the idea of starting a US domestic airline for smokers, I've never heard anything so ridiculous, and that's coming from a committed smoker - if you can't survive a few hours (and an absolute maximum of five hours for a transon), you have a serious, serious problem.

China Eastern (at least on flights to/from Japan).

Flew with them a couple of months back (aircraft downgraded from an A340 to an A320!!). The Non-smoking sign was on the whole time but the guy behind me started smoking. I complained and said that if the NS sign is on nobody should be smoking. If smoking was allowed the captain should turn the sign off. F/A disappeared and came back to explain that the captain couldn't adjust the non-smoking sign ??!! I didn't know what to answer to that, I was too confused! But she did say that on flights to/from Japan they allowed smoking (ugh...)

Kuwait Airways allowed smoking in 2000 when we flew JFK-LHR-KWI-BOM and back. But I hear they are now non-smoking.

The return leg from LHR to JFK was the worst, because we had a smoker right in front of us in business class. I was surprised to see how difficult it was for my wife and I, both ex-smokers, to cope with this. Another business class passenger requested an upgrade to first class, but was denied because "they smoke in first class too."

Other than this, the flight was OK if like me, you don't drink alcohol. My wife missed having wine, however.
