EK Going Double Daily To Birmingham

Mon Oct 27, 2003 12:28 am

This rumour has been around for a while, but has now been confirmed.

From http://www.bhx.co.uk

Emirates, the Dubai based international airline, will launch a second daily service to and from Birmingham from next spring.

The award winning carrier's second daily flight will begin operating on March 10th, 2004 and, like the current daily service, will be operated by a state of the art 285-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

The second service from Birmingham, EK038, will depart at 1955 hrs arriving in Dubai at 0655 hrs the following morning - ideally timed for connections to onward flights to destinations such as Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore, Manila, Bangkok, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Karachi, Bahrain and Muscat. The return flight EK037 will depart from Dubai at 1445 hrs and arrive in Birmingham at 1835 hrs.

Maurice Flanagan, Emirates' Vice Chairman and Group President, said: "When we launched our Birmingham route in December 2000, we knew it would do well, and so it has, in no small way thanks to the strength of our reputation and excellence of our in-flight service.

"Our expansion continues apace as more and more people want to experience Emirates' award-winning customer service. Dubai offers both a fantastic destination - be that for tourism or commerce - and a perfect geographical point to break long journeys, with connections to countless other destinations that lie further afield on the Emirates' network."

The development will also boost Birmingham's cargo capacity by 15 tonnes a day giving customers of Emirates SkyCargo greater flexibility.

The carrier already operates the daily EK039/040 between Birmingham and Dubai, offering customers a 1400hrs departure from the airport.

MAN has nonstop flights to MCO-ORD-EWR-JFK etc!!!

Say Bhxforever,
For the sake of those who are reading this string, I think some readers might not realize that you are not talking about Birmingham, USA, but Birmingham, UK. If you're not careful some of us good ole boys might get a little too excited about a big ole plane landing in our backyard!

Wow, ten flights to the UK a day now from Emirates. I think those times (19:55-06:55) are better than the morning flight:

1. Because you'll wake up (unless you didn't sleep on the plane) after a night flight to a full day, of either business or leisure.

2. Unless it's a really bad day, you'll arrive at the airport before rush hour

3. It's a night flight, therefore it will be quieter. Also you can sleep after a full day then wake up ready for another one.

Do you think there is a possiblity that Emirates may fly to a new destination in the UK? Glasgow is a possibility

I would expect a GLA announcement very shortly with possibly another MAN announcement to be made (on top of the 777s going on 1 of our daily services). I couldn't possibly comment on the nature of that announcement  Big grin

I personally think there is a market for EK flights to

Newcastle
Edinburgh
Belfast
Dublin
Cork
Glasgow
Leeds Bradford
East Midlands
Bristol
London STN

If some of the destinations were combined, surely they would work. For example a 3 x weekly DXB-Bristol-Cork route, along with EK's well known brand would do ok i'm sure??

Regards

"daily service, will be operated by a state of the art 285-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft"

maybe a dumb question but for example AF A332 has something like 220 seats...so I suppose EK operates some kind of "hi-density" A332 or a mistake somewhere

EK have high density and low density versions of their fleet; high density = 2 class only (business + economy).

Plus in EK's business class they pack em in like sardines with 2-3-2 across!! compared to most other carriers 2-2-2 across.
