I was at EWR waiting for my DL flight to board this evening and noticed some rather interesting things when witnessing the KL 767 flight to AMS boarding.

-No mention of the fact that this was a KLM flight. All announcements were done solely with the NW codeshare flight number--no mention of the KLM flight number was even made on the gate 42 information board. It just had the NW codeshare flight number.

-Announcements were solely done in English, there were no announcements made in Dutch.

Is this supposed to happen? I could imagine that the casual traveler with a ticket booked through KLM was rather confused considering the only information given was for a Northwest f/n.

NWA and KLM switch back and forth with the EWR-AMS route, the last time I was there it was NWA with their DC-10s.

As far as English-only announcements, yes, that's normal.

I don't think it's normal that the KL flight number wasn't announced at all.

Both flight numbers should have been posted and announced, rather ususual. KLM took over the AMS-EWR service from NW for the winter season - as the winter schedule only began this past weekend, maybe the ground staff was a bit confused or non-observant. Who knows? The AMS-EWR service is now operated by a 763 (instead of the NW DC-10).

I'm taking that EWR-AMS flight in 3 weeks.... I'll be interested to see how it's presented at the gate.
