Wed Oct 29, 2003 7:15 am

Hello,

Does anyone know if jetblue would fly to CLE? If yes when do you think it would be? A month, 1 year, 3 years etc. thanks!

Is there any room ay CLE for JetBlue? I don't think there are any available gates or ticket counters. Are there?

I dont 100% remember if it was CLE or not, but I think it was. Didnt jetBlue look into CLE but get very snotty responses from the airport board at the time?

As much as I would LOVE to see them in CLE, most likely CAK will get them first.

Look at B6 in SAN there was no ticket counter space for them the airport authority forced HP to give up 2 counter spaces for B6. So I am sure if they really wanted to fly to CLE they could find a way to get a couple spaces from another airline by going to crying or whatever they do to get these airports to pamper them. Its not like SAN needed B6 we already have WN, F9, and HP all offering low fares.

You are correct JBLU, I remember reading the article awhile back. CLE did something to really turn them off, something to do with landing fees or gates or something. I remember all the CLE supporters were pissed and thats about all I can remember. Big thumbs up

That really sucks. Maybe that now since the airport is changing all the fees then can hook JBLU. They made usairways give up gates that they didnt use so I think CLE could find space.

JetBlue included CLE in a list of cities to likely be served by new EMB-190s. It's old news, I thought.

I wish people would stop all their "what-ifs" and just stick to facts. Let the executives run the airline, wishful thinking from people like us doesn't earn them any money.

CMH was also included in that list of cities likely to be served. The list used to be on their website in the FAQ section, but I haven't been able to find it recently. There is definately room for them since HP pulled out, but I haven't heard much about it lately.

JetBlue is thinking of coming to CLE. Was talking to a B6 Captain taking a jump seat the other day, and he says that they're looking at CLE-JFK, and also at CAK-Florida, and plan to serve both.

When B6 comes in-I think it's a matter of time now-they'll go on the A Concourse, which is the must under-utilized of the three concourses.

One other CLE news: CO will lost Gate C-1 permanently, as the TSA is going to have some kind of control or Ops tower put in in that area. To make up for it, CO will be taking over Gate C-10 from NW.

He stonewalled JetBlue, and they didn't come; White stonewalled AirTran and they went to CAK. See a pattern here, and why CO and WN are so damn glad Mike White is gone.  Big grin

I'm always amazed at how low CLE's cheapest tickets are compared to DTW's... for example, one can fly CLE-BWI for sub-$100 inclusive during WN's promotions, but that number stands at $250 ex-DTW. Is there even room for B6 in the CLE market? I always thought CLE was a low-fare hungary town anway - maybe the city would enjoy better success as a LCC's hub...

Ha, Cleveland is anything BUT cheap. As a matter of fact it's one of the more expensive airports to fly into. Continental has complained for years about the exhorbitant airport fees it incurrs while it's operated a hub in Cleveland(the city REFUSES to give cutback, even to the airline that provides over 75% of the traffic).
As for gate space, Cleveland has plenty of it. They've had plenty of it ever since Eastern and Pan Am folded up in '92. Pan Am occupied the northern end of Concourse A, and Eastern had gates in mid-concourse B, but since the two folded up Amerian and United have taken over the gates. United is all but non-existant at the airport. They have like 6 flights a day out of Cleveland, while American isn't far behind(note these airlines occupy at least 3 gates each, in their own concourse respectively). So if JetBlue wanted to serve Cleveland, I'm sure either American or United would be glad to sell gate space which ultimately wastes them money, American who could use the cash. Plus JetBlue would revitilize the A concourse! It's usually dead unless the usual 10 US Airways or 6 American flights, the 1 America West, or the daily CLE-LGW flight(customs is in Concourse A), or the very rare charters come through. Though I'm afraid nothing can save Cleveland Hopkins at this point... that airport is a lost cause.
God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.

I'm not saying operational costs at CLE are cheap, I'm saying airfares are cheap. The cheapest restricted RT tickets to BWI (from CLE) and LGA (from CAK) routinely sell for sub-$100. After B6's mishaps at ATL, I question whether or not CLE would be the "right" market for them to immediately expand into.

Neeleman spoke at one of the colleges (Cuyahoga Community?) in Cleveland last week and reiterated that CLE was in line for EMB-190 service sometime in the future. When and where were left unspecified.

(the city REFUSES to give cutback, even to the airline that provides over 75% of the traffic).

Actually, that is not true. The city, this past summer, cut landing fees by 18%, which, if I'm not mistaken, is about $.72 per 1000lbs landing weight. The cut is NOT permanent at this time, but Gordo told us in an employee meeting that CO and the city are looking at long-term ways to reduce the burden the carrier has in CLE as far as fees go.

As for gate space, Cleveland has plenty of it. They've had plenty of it ever since Eastern and Pan Am folded up in '92.

Not "plenty", but enough. Eastern was on Concourse B. That is now a well-used Concourse by AC, UA, DL and WN, and doesn't have any space to give. Neither does C or D, since CO and NW use all the spaces there. PA and TW were on A, and now that AA is stopping CLE-STL service this week, and with US no longer with the service it once had, there is room on A for B6 to use a gate or two.

United is all but non-existant at the airport.

I wouldn't call about 12 or so flights non-existent, but they're presence has shrunk greatly. I think they fly 2 flights a day to DEN now, about 5 to IAD, and about 6 or 7 to ORD.

Thanks for the corrections! I'm sure there's more...

I was hoping to see the B753 at CLE on Friday, but opted to travel on earlier flights (thus avoiding the evening departure/arrival times) instead... on the inbound of my trip on Monday, the pilot talked about diverting our B764 to CLE due to all the weather problems at EWR -- if that happened, I wonder if they would've deplaned us there, or continued onto EWR when the airport re-opened?

People don't like it, PROSA, but the fact is that CLE is perfectly suited for RJ's. It's smack-dab in the middle of just about the entire country, at least as far as flying capabilities goes, and the fact is that CLE absolutely WOULD have been shut down as a hub, I'm sure, had RJ's not existed after 9/11 and the resultant depression that hit the airline industry.

Hopefully, things will improve for carriers, and CO can start putting more mainline service in-at least once a day on some routes that have all RJ's. That would be a start.

Blah! I was concerned about my bags making the connection... I usually don't check baggage, but I figured there was no way I was going to get away with 4 carry-ons + a baby. They made it via the outbound, but they've taken an extended vacation somewhere in Europe (or where ever the hell they're at)  Sad.

That list is a bit flawed, as was already pointed out. For example America West I beleive flies 757/A320, or at least did these past months. Also, American doesn't have any more of it's own MD80 service except to STL, and that's going soon. Everything for them is ERJs and CR7s.

The listing was taken from Novemeber as mentioned... AA has MD-80 service to ORD, likely displacing capacity from STL... HP won't be flying B757 into CLE...

For the third time... THE SCHEDULE IS FOR NOVEMEBER. It's NOT Novemeber! The MD-80 flights are likely displacing capacity for the STL flights that end this weekend.  Smile

CLE is a pretty small market. As a hub for CO, it still only ranks as a medium hub airport. It's a perfect 100 seater market. Kind of like Burbank, Milwaukee, and Chicago Midway.
