Korean Air: how are they?

Wed Oct 29, 2003 9:07 am

It looks like I am going to have to fly Korean Air a couple of time in the near future and I have heard some pretty bad stuff about them, is there truth to it?

I have flown several times the route FRA - ICN - FRA and domestic routes as well. Only had good experiences on them. Service is great and flight attendants very kind. Anyway, in economy no PTVs on board (on B 747). Safety has improved a lot over the past two years, so I think there is no need for worry in flying them again.
fly Korean Air ....

It is a great airline with a great home airport. A lot better than any US airline.

there are no PTV's in Y class, shame though.
their inflight service ain't bad, did get a bit boring since there were no PTV's but you get used to it. their 777 layout is 2-5-2 while their 747 layout is 3-4-3 in Y class.

Regarding the PTV's it depends where you are flying. Some B744's have them installed in Y class, while our newest 777 has the IFE upgrade and personal PTV's in Y also. They are progressively (slowly) being installed across the longhaul fleet.

Cheers,

I flew them five times on CDG-SEL and CDG-ICN return, all of them on 744's in Prestige (Business) Class.
The cabin was very clean every time, the F/A's were friendly and had no problem with cameras (very important point for me  Smile). There were PTV's witha pretty good choice of movies/games, etc..., pity the screen was so small. The meals were either a choice of Western or Korean cuisine, all of which were pretty tasty, but the wine list was..how should I say it ? well, aI'm a FF on AF and French as well, so  Laugh out loud at least they had some decnet champagne lol...
As a far as I remember they were on time at every occasion I flew them, and check-in was pretty fast.
And now for a little plugging from my KE flights Big grin :

Korean Air 747s with PTVs in all classes : HL7402, HL7404
Korean Air 777s with PTVs in all classes : HL7714, HL7715, HL7721

Overall they are a great airline.

Just about all "foreign" carriers serve a better product than US carriers. Even Air Canada.

'I've heard some pretty bad stuff about them'

Enlighten us, besides some safety issues, wich are supposedly all resolved now, I can not imagine anything bad about them. Perhaps, arriving at your destination, as KE flights are that good that I could only wish that they lasted forever! But if you feel unsecure, you can always join the cattle on UA or NW to Seoul. Anyway, enjoy your stay aboard KE!  Big grin
