I used to work for them. Flown them twice...
1. The service, presentation and basically everything is classy, believe it or not. The service is much better than any other airline flying their routes. The pilots are top notch and professional. The food is what I would consider light breakfast or lunch type meals, pretty good actually and more than what you can expect on a similar flight on another airline. The seats I would say are very similar to what you would get on Jetblue or Song, but with much more legroom and adjustable head rests.
2. The Hooters girls are not the Flight Attendants. I thought it would be common knowledge by now, but either out of ignorance, or because some people just have a fantasy in their heads they even reality cant shake, this still seems to be a common misconception. There are three professionally trained flight attendants (trained by Delta last I checked) The FA
's do everything you would expect, even the service. The girls do nothing. They greet you as you board, one at the top of the jetway and another at the aircraft door. They do the same for deplaning. During flight the basically don't do squat. Maybe do a trivia question for a prize of time and turbulence allow, but other than that, they stay out of sight.
While I was with the company, they said that the girls would be doing the service. The turned out not to be true. The girls are pretty much window dressing and get all the credit and attention while doing none of the work. But real flight attendants are used to that.
3. It's not demeaning at all. There are real FA
's on board, young and old, male and female. Its a pretty happy environment, as it's just about the only contract Pace has where people want to work and are treated right.
That being said, there are some huge problems. It seems like to me the people at Pace are over preoccupied with making the Hooters people happy that they ignore their other contracts. The people at Pace said that they would fill it with existing employees. All the Hooters FA
's are new hires off the street. They wouldn't let and existing employees go after telling them how much better it would be. Try pulling that off at a major airline and see how long you're still flying.
The latest thing now is they've taken away seniority. There's no bidding, the flights are staffed by a monthly "lottery". So even if someone w/in Pace did go, and had been with the company for years and paid their dues (and believe me, if you work anywhere else in Pace you pay your dues big time) you still could have less senior people working better shifts than you. Pretty shitty if you ask me.
All in all, it's pretty cool to fly, anyone could enjoy it. If you can get hired on with them, go for it. Just don't look to have a bright future with Pace, and look to eventually get the shaft in some form or another.
