Virgin Upper Class Suite

Thu Oct 30, 2003 4:15 am

Anyone flown on the new Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Suites? Tried searching for trip reports and other threads but couldn't find anything. Curious to know how it is flying on them.

Just for clarification purposes...are the suites replacing the Traditional Upper Class? Or, do they just serve to effectively add another class of service to Virgin's product. Are they putting the suites on all planes?

The one aircraft with the suite fitted (G-VTOP) has undergone more problems and as far as i know is in the hangars at Heathrow, still yet to fly passengers with the suite. It will be applied to all aircraft except the A340-300's which are due to be phased out, so it's not worth them getting it. The upper class suite replaces the upper class applied to all other aircraft. The next aircraft to get the Upper class suite will be G-VROC, a new aircraft. G-VHOT looks like it's next to be fitted.

G-VTOP finally did its first flight with the new suite on Sat 25th. I don't know anyone who's flown on it as a passenger but reports are very good so far. The a/c is currently planned to operate VS3/4 LHR-JFK daily until the 2nd 'suite' a/c arrives when they will do JFK and SFO.

Saw it in the flesh today, it looks really really good. The only downside is that they have put red carpet in the new section and where it joins the purple carpet in Premium, it looks stoopid, aside from that it looks really great.

It was covered in engineers and cleaners when I saw it, but I bet it looks even better when it's all "dressed".

The seats on the upper deck look good too, they are very secluded but with a feeling of space too.

The materials that have been used throughout give the cabin a very spacious modern yet elegant look to it.

Bar area is good, a big improovement on the old one.

The wardrobes are cool too, when you open them, a red light illuminates and gradually gets brighter !!.

The wardrobe at the very front of the cabin has now gone and been replaced with seats, and the two very front windows that were blanked off have been re-installed.

First impressions are that they have hit the nail on the head this time, lets hope they have got it right this time.  Big thumbs up

The original plan was to replace the 343's with 346's on a 1 for 1 basis. However they're all still flying! 2 are due to leave the fleet this year but I'm not sure what the plans are for the remaining a/c.
