AA Goes Back To BRU From JFK

Fri Oct 31, 2003 2:44 am

American Airlines will announce in the near future that they will start flying again to BRU from JFK. Service will start in may and be seasonal at first. The flights are scheduled to leave BRU at around 11.00AM.

My very reliable source has also told me that if certain things occur (ie terrorism in the aviation) meanwhile, the new service might be cancelled.

It is great that AA is potentially adding another trans-Atlantic route, but I do wish it had been from Miami. However, the NYC-BRU market is not particularly crowded, so it offers a lot of potential for AA.

if it's true, it's a great news.
Code-sharing with SNBA, I suppose?

Thanks a lot, manni!

I had expected to see AA adding JFK-BRU for summerseason 2004 or 2005, but hadn't heard anything official yet.

Hope to see an announcement soon!

Yup expect a B 767-300ER to be used for the route and not a B 777-200ER.

The capacity and range of the B 763 is perfect for a JFK-BRU flight multiple times a week.

Does AA fly from JFK to MADRID or Barcelona? Or does it codeshare with IBERIA on this route?

MAD is only flown from the MIA hub. BCN was supposed to be started but was scrapped due to the economy...

I expected this service to return, especially since AA has a code-sharing deal with SBN Brussels and service to New York is especially important for the large number of passengers flying from Africa to the US via Brussels. Since Sabena closed down, the number of flights between Brussels and New York have been very much reduced....I fly from BRU to EWR on Continental about once a month (just upgraded from a 762 to a 764) and BusinessFirst is almost always 100% full regardless of day or season (trying to get an award ticket on this route is quite difficult and requires months of planning) and economy goes out (according to airline employees at BRU) about 95+% full in the summer and about 80% full even in the winter and low-season periods which is very good, especially since cheap fares on this route are very much controlled.

American flew JFK-BRU from the late 1980's to the mid-1990's from JFK. The route operated with a 767-200ER and then a 767-300ER before it was axed. They are even using the same AA flight #'s again...AA 96/97.

Will SNBA operate to Casablance with its own planes? If so, will the A319 be used or the Avros? Does anyone know whether SNBA has any plans to add any planes to its fleet in the near future? (a few extra A319s maybe?)

Flights will be operated by the A319.

Would be a bit far for an ARJ, isn't it? Big grin
