You could check HAS's website at http://www.houstonairportsystem.org
and check under 'Capital Improvements' in the lower left section. I think it is supposed to be opened by now? Do you mean 26R/8L??

Runway 8L/26R does open tomorrow (Oct 31). As I hear it, a CO 767 will make one takeoff and/or landing ... Something like that. It will be in full use the next day. Shortly thereafter runway 9/27 will be closed for repairs till mid-December. After that 8R/26L will be completely rebuilt from the dirt up .... A procedure that will take most, if not all of 2004.

How is that new runway going to change landing/takeoff configurations? A normal IAH runway configuration, before the new runway was:

- Landing: 26 (now 26L), 27
- Departing: 15L, 15R, 26 (now 26L)

So my guess is, for all three east-west runways operational and the same wind direction as above:

- Landing: 26R, 27, 26L
- Departing: 15L, 15R, 26L

When they close 9/27, maybe they'll use 26L/8R only for landings, for a parallel operation with 26R/8L.

Any way they do it, there will be some long inbound taxi times to the southside gates.... When landing on 27, I've had aircraft sitting on the j-line at Term.E before I even know they are on the ground.

I was out of town all weekend, and as I was coming down F.M. 1960 yesterday afternoon, I saw a CO jet land on the new runway from a distance (while I was back around Lee Rd.) - as I went further west, I saw some lights in the distance and lo and behold - just as I got around Farrel, what do you think those lights turned out to be --- a KLM 747.... You can really see how close the new runway is to 1960 now.

Does anybody know what the status of Farrel and/or Richey Rd. is planned to be (in between Aldine-Westfield and F.M. 1960). Will they stay closed or reopen?
