B6 To DTW?

Fri Oct 31, 2003 2:32 pm

There has been a little bit of a buzz going around DTW about B6 possibly coming in. I think it is very very unlikely but it's still a nice thought.

At least at DTW they would only get beaten up by Northwest. Southwest isn't as strong at DTW.

Not likely for JetBlue to end up in DTW.
Their route structure would be subpar to everyone else.
Consider that NW, Spirit, and American Eagle all operate DTW-LGA with like a combined 20 dailies or something, CO and NW operate DTW-EWR

Who is going to fly DTW-JFK, when in fact prices are already held low by competition on DTW-LGA. Spirit already has a good footing in the DTW-Florida along with NW's dominance.

If B6 wanted to enter the Detroit market, they'd be better off operating FNT-JFK, but thats more suited for the 190's than multiple dailies on the A320.

Also NW has taken the offensive at FNT with its new FNT-TPA, MCO, and FLL routes

B6 has previously indicated service at FNT. As mentioned, NK keeps fares to LGA, LAX, OAK, Florida, etc. low, so there's no reason B6 would succeed at JFK, LGB, etc.

Isn't B6's first station to open in Michigan going to be GRR since they don't have low fare service other than ATA.

All speculation my friend........

could be GRR, could be FNT.....could be DTW....heck it could be CIU!!

Business plans change all of the time, look at what good ole WN just pulled in PHL this week.

On a truthful note, I wouldn't look for any service in Michigan on JetBlue until the 190's arrive. None of their routes could justify an A320

Not speculation - B6 has publicly indicated interest in FNT and has had intense negotiations with the airport. NYC and DCA are the two cities FNT’s heavily lobbing service for … of course, US was previous turned down for DCA-FNT service a couple years ago…

DTW will not be on the list of B6s destinations because of the 20-25% recent increase of landing fees for all aircraft so keeping that in mind I doubt DTW will be served with A 320s being around...HOWEVER when the EMB 190s arrive then maybe DTW alongwith CLE etc maybe added.
