I would take a plane first off, then I would take a pair of trunks, it will be nice to sit on a beach in trunks, going nude scares people.

easiest way is to connect in Miami with AA or Cayman Airways. AA have a few (three/four) flights a day. Be aware the price is steep for a 500 mile flight due to the ludicrously high fees charged in GCM. While you are there, take a time out to watch the 3/4 times weekly BA B767 stop in a very short distance on the runway - AA pilots have been known to delay departure just to see this.....

What Should I Take To Grand Cayman,Cayman Islands

I would recommend:

- sun lotion (a sunburn is painful)
- swimming trunks (as UAL777CONTRAIL already mentioned, it's not nice to sit nude on the beach)
- condoms (in case you meet a nice girl)
- Your DL and AA Platinum cards (to show everyone how super duper important you are)
- some other suff

Okay,

Your profile says you are 16 years old and from Belgium.

So, explain to me how a sixteen-year-old gets to be Platinum on two different domestic airlines.

Then I'll explain how to get from Washington DC or Richmond VA to Grand Cayman.  Innocent

Never mind.

If you are Platinum on two different airlines, that means you already fly between 150,000 and 200,000 miles a year (more than some flight crews).

So, you should be telling us, right?

Well, your platinum status won't help you here, but I'd take USAirways via CLT.

Oddly enough, one of the most expensive meals I ate while in Grand Cayman was Pizza from the pizza hut. For what I got, it was $$$$. For a REALLY good restaurant for a very reasonable price, eat at the Crows Nest. Most cabbies know how to get there. It isn't the nicest looking place, but the food and service are phenomenal.

Don't get me wrong, I love the city of Miami...but connecting throught its airport can be very trying. I live here and would recommend US out of CLT or PHL or DL through ATL.

CO also has a flight out of EWR, not sure if it is daily though.

I would agree with Steve6666, easiest would be through MIA, and maybe you could take Caymam Airways for a change from AA. However, you could have a stop over in a Central American country and take a local airline to Grand Cayman, which are always fun flights.  Smile

Joleb:

In answer to your question about Grand Cayman, I would reccomend United or US Airways, because I think they have the best service of all the U.S. majors. Also, you may want to try Air Jamacia from BWI. I have heard wonderful things about their service, and I think that you can earn DL Skymiles as well. Also, BWI has the cheapest flights on orbitz.com for those dates. Hope this information is helpful!

I'm sorry about all of the childish members in this forum who spend more time posting photos of penis sizes than answering aviation related questions.

Hope you have fun in GCM Joleb. Try to get to Grenada sometime. Yes you can get your DL points on JM. JM offers great service in my opinion and lots of people good to say about it.

I am very happy to hear the good stuff about US Airways. I am pretty fond of them and i have flown on other US carriers in the past. BUt recently I have seen that US AIrways wasn't an all american favourite by the hard bashing that has been going on.

My mom used it from GND to PHL once this year and went twice after becuase she loved the flight, the crew and the service as compared to others.

I have gone on them a couple times from GND and BGI and in the domestic US and it was ok.

As I said however you get to GCM Joleb have fun...

There is something special about planes....

In light of all the irrelevant chatter that this thread turned into, forgive me for actually going back to the original question which was airline service to GCM. I note somebody suggested UA. I agree UA has good service and I like them, however they do not fly to GCM at all, not have they ever (or at least in recent memory).

I am not sure but they MIGHT codeshare with AC out of YYZ. AC has good YYZ service into GCM. Whether UA actually code shares on these flights or just sells seats with their Star alliance partner I don't know, but I have heard of a number of people (probably Star frequent flyers) coming from ORD and other UA destinations via YYZ on UA/AC.

Also somebody suggested BWIA. They don't fly here either. I wish they did, it would mean better intra Carribean service which we lack.

Best regards,

Right you are, Cayman.

Over on Orbitz, if you hit the radio button for 'flights by United Airlines' and read the fine print, it says "United flights operated by USAirways."

Also, the Air Jamaica flights mentioned in a post above are actually via Air Jamaica Express on a Dash 8 out of Montego Bay. That's a long way 'round, and I doubt that would measure up to the ambiance the original poster was expecting.

Joleb,

Perhaps you would want to go back and change your profile so it bears some resemblance to reality? As you say, you are, "...not a liar."

That's better, Joleb. You might, also, want to change the country and location so they match.

Money, Snorkeling Gear and Sunscreen and good Sunglasses! I was down there a couple of years ago and had a blast, but I must tell you- it gets very hot and is very bright down there ! And GCM(I think) is a neat Carribean airport.
Have a great trip !

Joleb, I have gone thru MIA and ATL to GCM. Much prefer ATL on DL to GCM. Assuming this is your first time to Caymans, you are in for a treat. My favorite place for vacation of ALL the places I've been. Friendly, happy people, wonderful beaches, beautiful water. Yes, it will cost more, but it is worth it. If you are staying near Seven Mile Beach, you may not need to rent a car. Shops, fast food, grocery stores, in walking distance. Use the public buses (mostly 15 pax vans)to go to downtown and outer ends of the Island. Riding with the locals will give you more flavor of this place. And it is completely safe. We buy groceries for breakfast and lunch, eat out in the eve. And March is a good time to go.

Happy trip, Walter Boatner Gadsden, AL USA

Joleb,

I suggest the Hyatt on 7 mile beach. I was in Georgetown last year and loved every minute of it. Like most hotels on Grand Cayman, it's a gorgeous and expensive place to stay, but worth every Cayman dollar.

Have a good time.

Actually, both UA and BW used to serve GCM. UA started flying there in 1992 after the demise of Pan Am. It served the destination for 2 years then dropped it at the time of the labour buyout in 1994 (at the same time it dropped POS). BW flew there long before that as it stopped in GCM in the 1950s on the KIN-MBJ-MIA route. BW's Sunjets (727-78s) maintained the service up to 1971 when they were sold off - then BW was left with an all-707 fleet and those planes were too big to land there.

An interesting tidbit of aviation history for you.

For hotels, try the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. Marriotts are probably the best hotels you can stay at.

Joleb, I have only stayed at The Villa de Galleons on seven mile beach. These are condos; when I was there last (2001) you could rent them by the day. They have one thru three bedroom units. And you will have a kitchen. I don't have a phone #, but maybe you could call information. The Manager then was Lisa. I think their rates will be as cheap as the hotels aforementioned, especially if you can get a one bedroom unit.
