Sun Nov 02, 2003 10:06 pm

Third quarter results published today show a strong turnaround in the airline's fortunes as the three-year strategic plan takes effect at every level of the airline's operation.

During the third quarter of 2003, a record 1,811,232 passengers flew on Gulf Air flights, which operated with an average load factor of 73.5 per cent. This is 17.4 per cent up on figures for the same period last year.

Beginning in July, the summer holiday season saw Gulf Air achieve a load factor of 72.2 per cent with year on year revenue increases of 13.5 and 7.1 per cent in passenger and cargo and mail growth respectively.

During August 659,054 passengers flew on Gulf Air flights to the 45 destinations on its network. This was a record in the airline's 53-year existence, and represents an increase of 19.3 per cent over the same period last year, with an average load factor of 78.2 per cent. Strong growth in passenger traffic was matched by a 14.8 per cent increase in cargo uplift.

The airline also recently announced its sponsorship of the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix – the biggest sporting event to be held in the Middle East.

'We intend to maintain this momentum into the last quarter, with the introduction of three new destinations, when flights to Athens, Sydney and Kolkata commence at the end of November, following on the flights to Bangalore which came on line at the end of October. The expansion in the network will be supported with unique products and services that will both surprise and delight our customers,' he predicted.
