Mexicana Airlines Wides Bodies

Mon Nov 03, 2003 7:16 am

Just in:

Mexicana Airlines has leased 2 B767 ER's from SAS to
start non-stop MEX-EZE-MEX service effective December
15, 2003.

Great news as it reasures the growth and betterment
of Mexican Civil Aviation.

Hope they open the MEX-FRA-MEX or MEX-LON-MEX
routes soon.

If anyone has any further information on this please let us
know.

Why do we always end up with old 2nd hand planes. Those ex SAS must be at least 12 years old. We should at leat try to be launch customers for the 7E7. It would be a great ship for Aeromexico and Mexicana. In the meantime, sure, let's lease wright brothers' era planes, it is after all the "century of flight year"

The 7E7 needs lauch customers and American airlines are not convinced. It's facing big trouble with that. Boeing has now had to go to Japan and is considering going to Europe Let's jump on the bandwagon and say we are interesed in the 7E7. We have a histoy of launching many versions of planes, if not the original model, but we did got the DC-10-15, the MD-82, the
DC-32 and a few others.

yes, why did they get rid of their dc10s? I remember seeing them years ago in LAX during the late 70's/early 80's.. When did they get rid of them btw?

(sorry to threadjack)

I have no idea why they got rid of them, but I think it had to be with outrageous operative costs (three fuel-thirsty engines), three pilots, no real long haul routes to used them at (at least with MX), downsizing of the industry at a worldwide level, financial crisis, etc. AM signed the deal (or at least showed some sort of interest) for the 767 way before it went on bankruptcy in 1988 so it was a matter of time for them to disappear from the Mexican skies (if not mistaken late 1994, early 1995, but not sure though).

MX retire the last Dc10 in 1995., exactly 8 years ago.... 8 years after they welcome the B767!!!

It seems that MX could lease up to 4 B763, as I know, SAS has currently 5 in their fleet. Are the 4 from SAS? So if things go well, they could also get the 5th since SAS has replaced them with A340s. If they are thinking in 4 I guess it's not only for South American flights.

Jopavon,

I read here that Air Holland was receving three B767-300s ex. SAS. Plus two MX 767s... that makes 5. Probably, the other 767s will be ex. American/TWA...
