What Is This 767 Thing?

Mon Nov 03, 2003 8:42 pm

Can anyone tell me what this thing is at Everett? It appears to be a 767 fuselage on a very strange gear. Does anyone know what it is used for? It doesn't appear to have wheels, so may not be anything to do with towing, or towing training.

Fire rescue training? Hostage rescue training? Fuselage blank, so engineers can see if something fits? Destructive testing aircraft, you know the one that they broke the wings on?

Perhaps a mock up for cargo door trials (and handling) for KC-767....

it looks more like a cut of what was a real complete 76 at a point (look at the wing cuts).
cockpit? it's that little room in the front of the plane where the pilots seat.. but that's not important now

it is used painting purposes, perhaps to test paint. My answer comes from the poeple at Boeing.

Maybe it's the remains of the mysterious l/n 718. The 718th Boeing 767 fuselage has never been completed or delivered, probably due to a cancelled Asiana order of a -300ER. Parts were reallocated to other aircraft on the productionline which were delivered around september 1998.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

used to test paint? That's interesting. I wonder what testing paint goes through. Many coats of white paint applied I suppose!
