NW's A330 Service

Wed Nov 05, 2003 3:52 am

I've tried before, with no responses, so I'm going to try this again.....
Has anyone flown NW's new A330's transatlantic yet? I'm booked in Economy for a trip on one in December DTW-FRA roundtrip, and looking for comparison between Economy service on the DC10's vs the new A330's.

Also, any comparisons between the new beast and US or European carriers' equivalent aircraft. Thanks!
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

Also, anybody know if they plan on replacing some of the DC-10 routes with the A330?
I'm booked Boston-AMsterdam in December on the DC-10 and was wondering if maybe I'd get to fly on the A330 instead.

BOS-AMS will NOT see the A330 in December. Except in a very very unusual circumstance. NWA currently has 5 A330's with no more deliveries until next year.

GSPSPOT,

I too am booked DTW-FRA roundtrip in December, my first trip on the 330. I guess we might just have to wait and see what it's like for ourselves. I am sort of guessing little footroom if the IFE system is anything like those on the 777.

The A330 are leaps-and-bounds better than the DC-10... they have the new interior (B777-style cabin, brighter whites, new colors, new seats w-ajustable/winged headrest, etc.) & the AVOD entertainment system with large screens. There's a couple extra inches of legroom + laptop ports in the first half of Economy... these seats are reserved for elites + premium-fare tickets... if there's any left over, use nwa.com check-in 36-hours out to get it. Service is the same as it would be on the DC-10... you'll get the sanitary napkin across the headrest, duty free shopping, newspapers/magazines, one meal + one snack, etc.

I haven't flown on the A330 yet but I've been in it twice. It's very impressive. I am hoping to fly on it within the next year. However they have been having a lot of problems with them. But I guess that is to be expected with a new airplane. I just hope the bugs are all worked out by time I get on one.

Duty Free Service is no longer provided on trans Atlantic flights. Due to staff cutbacks it was eliminated as a cost saving item. FA staffing was reduced by one person, the duty free revenue didn't come close to the crew cost.

A co-worker of mine flew NWA's A330 DTW-AMS-DTW WBC a few weeks ago. He said it was absolutely wonderful- great service, very comfortable WBC seats- VERY world class. He said he spent so much time playing with the very cool IFE, that he didn't really have time to sleep......

Also, my brother flew economy on NWA's A330 DTW-AMS-DTW last week. I haven't had a chance to talk to him about his flights yet.

Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.
