SIA And DL Codeshare?

Wed Nov 05, 2003 11:39 am

Hi everyone,

I was told by a Delta agent that there is some sort of codeshare agreement between DL and SIA for the LAX-SIN route. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

From what I am aware, the Delta-Singapore Airlines agreement, ended when SQ joined Star Alliance.

I believe that you can earn Delta SkyMiles if you fly SIA, and v.v. It isn't an actual code share, but rather a miles agreement. In other words you won't find a Delta code on an SIA flight.

Can anyone else elaborate on the details of that agreement, such as routes this is available. Or is it systemwide?

I can't guarantee you that I'm correct, but I believe the agreement IS system wide, but it is only a mileage agreement like CVG777 said. There are no codeshare flights between the two airlines.

What is was told was that I could redeem Skymiles on SIA, but specifically on the LAX-SIN flight. In fact, I'm supposed to be on the waiting list and I was even given a reservation code. It sounded weird to me being that SIA is a Star Alliance member, but I did not wan't to argue with the agent. What gives?

I believe this comes from the fact that prior to joining Star Alliance, SQ, together with DL and then SR, formed an alliance, and SQ codeshares with DL on SIN-LAX (on SQ11/12), with DL "further extending" the route to DFW. That code-share also included FFP program as well, as members on Skymiles could earn and redeem flights on SQ, and vv.

The code-share arrangement could have terminated, but perhaps their FFP parnership still remain in place..?

SQ and DL do maintain FFP cooperation... and a good one at that.

Not only can you redeem (cheap) DL mileage for SQ Transpacific/Transatlantic Raffles Class, but you can also upgrade from coach to biz on SQ using DL miles (provided that a full fare is purchase). That's VERY rare among non-allied int'l partners!!!

Thanks everyone, this pretty much clears it up. Now I have to make sure I have confirmed seats!

The only codeshares ever were JFK-SIN vv on SQ25/26 (DL even had one F/A on board) and LAX-DFW, operated by DL as an extension of Sq12/11 SIN-NRT-LAX. Codesharing between the two carriers was minimal. The FFP program remains in place, though.

ConcordeBoy, you are right! I only need 70,000 skymiles for a roundtrip MEX-LAX-SIN in economy! I would go for Raffles but I would need 95,000 skymiles and I'm taking the wife also, and only have 175,000 Skymiles, so I'm short by 15,000. I might purchase the 15,000 though, still don't know.

BTW, I'm planning on going there in January. Is it a good time to visit? I understand it is the rainy season and you know, I wan't to avoid it unless I don't have another option, because it has been so rainy here in Mexico this year that I'm tired of it! Plus, maybe if I wait until March I might be able to fly on the new SIA babies, the A345!!
